I think it's time I share this email I sent in refute to what LBC is hiding financially. Email sent in 2017.
"My name is Lucas William Vandergriff and I am 25 years old. When I came to LBC I was given a substantial scholarship based on the reason of being a Northland International University senior transfer. LBC appeared generous and kind. Fellow transfers and myself were pleased with the comfort we received after the devastation of NIU having to close. It is not a single person’s fault that our campus was shut down, but most NIU students can agree that there was poor management on the financial end. The poor management resulted in thousands of dollars lost along with hard work and dedication to the educational accomplishments promised to us. We were told and convinced that LBC would be different. At first I was convinced by the encouraging words of Josh Beers, generosity of Scott Boyer, and understanding spirit of Kim Metzler. When I finished an entire school year at LBC I received an award letter in the amount of $1,000. Considering that I was to graduate in December I knew that I would have to plead a case in receiving the entire scholarship within one semester. Before I pleaded my case the $1,000 was split into a year and appeared as an additional scholarship to my Northland Scholarship. To my surprise my case was accepted within a three-email correspondence. When I received my new financial statement, the entire Carpenter Scholarship was visible; however, $1,000 was removed from my NIU scholarship. I immediately met with my financial advisor and it was then I discovered that the Carpenter Scholarship, which was awarded to me, was simply funding my NIU scholarship and I would receive no additional financial aid. Please keep in mind this was not so before I pleaded the case of receiving the entire $1,000 scholarship within one semester, which I have in writing. If the NIU scholarship was a loan this would make sense, but a scholarship is a scholarship and an award letter is an award letter. An academic center should not inform a student of an award that does not literally exist. I then applied prayer and sought counsel from elders and spiritual advisors who have experienced life in a further length than my own. Be advised that this was after I accepted the invitation to the luncheon. When I filled out a rsvp, I was given the impression that I was indeed receiving additional financial aid. I understand now this is not so. Instead of attending the luncheon I chose to trade hours for dollars during that time to support my wife and pay for school. Lancaster Bible College saw fit to use a scholarship, which was awarded to my name, to fund a scholarship they were already agreeing to supply. I decided to not attend the luncheon based on these facts that I have in writing given to me by Lancaster Bible College. If I had attended the dinner I would be thanking the donors for something that was given to LBC and not myself. If the donor wished to fund the NIU scholarship, then there would have been a lack of need to inform a student that they were receiving additional financial aid. Giving thanks for $1,000 given to LBC to fund existing financial aid and not additional financial aid to supplement a school bill for myself would have been deceitful to the donors. I have no desire to say thank you for something I...
Read moreI came from a small bible college that folded due to debt and LBC graciously took us Washington Bible College under their wing. They did a phenomenal job taking care us transfer students. They cared for us so personally and with excellence and my transition to LBC couldn't have been smoother. My 3 year experience was incredible as I graduated with a Pastoral degree. My professors were highly competent and highly relational. The opportunities for experience and growth was at my fingertips and only added to value of what I learned in the classroom. LBC did a fantastic job at training me personally at enhancing my head, heart, and hands to do the work of the ministry. I believe so much in what this institute does and back them...
Read moreI have not personally attended here for education but I have many acquaintances and friends who have. What I can say is that the education at LBC goes beyond just how to “get a job” or “make money for yourself”. This is an institution that lays the foundation for a more purposeful and meaningful career for its students. A chance not only to learn to live life to the fullest but also a chance to be a light to a world that desperately needs integrity, strength, and leadership at home and in the workforce. An exceptional and highly recommend...
