It's and intetesting spot, but you may have to tey a few parking lots//trailheads if you have a physical disability or use a mobility aid. The boardwalk idls not particularly accessible and the city does not maintain the area. The shifting seasons and weather have a big influence on the boardwalk itself. Mother nature definitely wants it gone and the city hasn't really made any moves. There are hazardous areas which are washed away, collapsed, covered with driftwood, in some spots the wind has blown inches of sand across the walkway. Lake Michigan is a beautiful spot, and you can definitely swim and walk around here, but as an access point to a natural resource, this is somewhat of a let down. Read moreThis is free and a great place for families too! It's not a terrible walk out to the lighthouse. It's very peaceful and beautiful! It's a breakwater lighthouse. There were a few boats in the harbor fishing. It was a great place to collect rocks and driftwood. There is a boardwalk and a nice beach area. You have to walk a pier/break wall to reach the lighthouse. It's worth the walk. It is very pretty. Their were a couple of porta bathrooms on the premises also. It was very peaceful and beautiful. Read moreThe Manistique Boardwalk is definitely one of our top attractions. I love it and I'm a local. I've taken SO many beautiful pictures here, and experienced great memories. Just please stop swimming at this spot. There are rip currents in this area; locals know this, but I'm telling you, too. People end up in the ER from nearly drowning at this spot. If you want to swim, go to Rogers Park. It's safer and there are bathrooms and clean water to fill up...
