After 52 years of celebrating life events with Baraona's cakes, I was shocked at how the owner treated me. My grandma, father, myself and sons have brought business-Baraona's was part of our family traditions. Never again. This time was extra special- my twin sons were preparing to celebrate college graduation this year. Because of the darkness of the pandemic, the Spring 2020 ceremony would be without commencement, with parties, just a grad cap virtually in the kitchen for one of them. The next day was also going to be the twins 22 birthdays and Mother's day too, celebrated in lockdown. All he wanted was a cassata cake to brighten his day. I asked the owner if on a 9 in. he could leave a little room for a grad cap decoration and write the words "Congrats KSU Grad 2020 Dean". (No more then writing "Happy 25th Birthday Mickey!") You would have thought I asked him to write a book! Annoyed, he said "it couldn't be done. It would take up the entire cake. I would need a bigger cake. Can't fit Congratulations and all those words.".I didn't ask for that. I explained how that's all he really asked for, there was only going to be a handful of us..."please me," besides my family always comes here. I truly didn't understand why it was so difficult? He got so angry, "Listen lady, I don't have time for this or you. You are getting on my last nerves and I have other customers to help and lots of cakes to make! He yelled in front of other customer,s ..." as a matter of fact, I am not going to make your cake.".. He slammed the door to the kitchen closed! I stood there shaking while tears poured from my eyes. One customer said, "I don't like how that man treated you. It was wrong. Congrats on your family successes you must be so proud." Very kind and compassionate. Another woman said, "We need to pray for that man." I asked the girl at the counter to please just write the words and I will decorate it myself. She was afraid to take the order because the owner told her not too. I said, "I did nothing wrong, please make the cake." Another associate came out and said, we can't write congratulations and fit flowers..WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT FLOWERS? WHO SAID CONGRATULATIONS? I just want Congrats...He said, okay, we can do that...Why did I have to go through hell just to bring a little heaven to my son??! What is this world coming too. I paid for the cake in advance but my heart ached walking out. So much for the sweet family business and valuing customer loyalty. When I got to my car, I decided to change my mind... I am certain that while so many people are unemployed, that another bakery would be happy to make the basic cassatta cake. When I walked back in, I said, "I don't want your cake anymore." The owner went to the register, credited my card and handed me a receipt with no apology. It left me feeling so numb. I called another bakery who said, "That will be no problem at all, we are happy to help you!" In addition, I ended up ordering cakes for the twin birthdays and cannoli's for mother's day too. Baraone's lost business and a loyal customer today. I will take the advice of the other customer and pray for the owner. Maybe I should bake a cake for him. Kindness goes...
Read moreWe have A LOT of birthdays in the summer time and frequently get the cassata cakes that we LOVE. That is used to love sadly something has changed. Twice in the last 30 days we got cakes. Cakes were dry and there is no way the strawberries were fresh. They were mushy and weird looking. They look like frozen strawberries in a bag that you buy at Walmart and thawed out. They have very little taste and their texture was like vomit. Literally the strawberries looked like they were regurgitated. Also poor service. Upon arriving at the store today there were two ladies working the front. They were just RUDE! I told them what I wanted and they instantly told me that they had no decorator and that I would have to come back in a few hours if I wanted something written on it. I drove 45 minutes and there was no way I could come back! Seriously how hard is it to write happy birthday on a cake? Ok whatever, still wanted the cake. She took the cake in the back and came back out with no cake and I stood there for 10 minutes. I told her I wanted some other items and she told me I had to wait. I waited another 5 minutes and finally she came out with my cake and then asked what else I wanted which could have been done while we waited for the cake to be boxed. It was like she had no desire to do her job. Another customer walked in and got the same cake I got and the other woman asked what she wanted written on the cake!!!! WHAT??? I was just told there was no decorator! I looked at her and said something and she looked at me all wide eyed like what the heck was I talking about. Then she proceeded to tell the other customer that the baker was busy baking and could write anything on the cake. I was told there was no one there to do but now the other customer was being told the baker was busy and to come back at 2:30 (it was 2:15) and I was told an hour!!!! For the prices of the cake the ingredients like strawberries should be FRESH and your employees need to get their stories straight! My family and I have been coming here for 30 something years and we are done and won’t be returning also the cannoli used to be phenomenal but they are a lot smaller now with less chocolate chips and tasted old. Read moreI’m disgusted, disturbed and disappointed and I will never a day in my life spend money here again.I found hair baked in my cookie! Today was my mom’s birthday she went there 3 times. She picked me up from work and gave me a piece of her almond joy cookie so we went back to get more. I got there got some more cookies for her and some for myself. I eat my apple cookie I got I go to eat my almond joy cookie and a HAIR was found in there! I brought my cookies back and they tried to replace my cookie didn’t show one once of. I said I didn’t want another one at this point no matter how good the cookie was I found hair so no. Then they told me they couldn’t give me a refund for the apple cookie cause I bit it but I really feel like at that point y’all could have really took everything back. Like the way they showed lack of care and customer service completely pissed me off! If it wasn’t my mom’s birthday I really would have went off. I talked to the manger all he had to say was he would talk to them about it. He showed lack of care also and I cannot stand people like that! I work in customer service and I feel when working in that field you need to care and most people don’t and it’s sad. I feel like they didn’t really care to resolve the issue just wanted to give me a new cookie and think everything would be ok. First and last time here.
