This place used to be such a cool spot to visit growing up. It always blew my mind that Marfa had an old military hospital—part of Fort D. A. Russell—and it made you wonder if it was haunted. Exploring it was always a memorable experience.
What a lot of people don’t realize is that Marfa even had an Army Air Field during World War II, and the hospital played a role in supporting it. That kind of history isn’t something you’d expect in a small town, and it made the place even more unique.
It’s honestly disappointing that they chose to demolish the Fort D. A. Russell Hospital and replace it with a “museum” that doesn’t even acknowledge the rich history that once stood here. (No photos are allowed inside.)
PS... It's free.
PPS... There are Chinati Foundation people at each part of this installation to help you know about the exhibit and to keep everything functioning well.

I truly feel bad for anyone who sees this and thinks it is some type of beautiful or inspirational thing. The world is really going down hill when people consider this type of thing as “art”. On top of it all, this site was home to historic hospital which was a great piece of history in the area. A real treasure was demolished and replaced with this trash “art” installation. The modern day and modern “art” is beyond pathetic. Destroying history to replace it with some bundled up rocks and...
