Hunting Creek Lake — Attraction in Maryland

Also called Cunningham Falls Lake, this is one of the smaller impoundments with a concrete boat launching ramp for any vessel 16 feet in length or less. Some reminders: electric trolling motors only, wear Coast Guard approved life preservers from Nov. 1 through April 30, carry a whistle or air horn with you, and avoid choppy water when wind speeds exceed 10 mph. There are far more bank fishermen, especially by the dam, than boaters, as there is year round trout fishing which peaks for several weeks after the first spring stocking. Once the water temperature reaches 55-60 degrees, the crappie spawn will last about 1-3 weeks, and the larger black crappie will bite very aggressively to defend their nests.
