West Virginia Mine Wars Museum — Attraction in Matewan

Now more than ever, this museum's importance cannot be overstated.

Each time I come here, I am blown away by the level of care, artistry and accuracy of the WV Mine Wars Museum exhibits. This is a PEOPLE'S HISTORY museum, and if it did not exist, these stories and histories would be scrubbed from living memory.

It is a work of love and resilience and courage and truth, and that work is made only more magnificent by the kind souls that work here. I am so excited to see how this museum improves and expands. The hope of Matewan...

We did the guided tour as well as the Matewan town tour when we came. Our guides were incredibly fun and knowledgeable. The museum was professionally curated and had a lot of amazing information and artifacts from the time period. The guided tour of the town was an excellent opportunity to hear the history of Matewan, and see the places where history happened firsthand. Small, but very nice museum, great history. Has some audio I played that I wish I could have heard a little better, would have bought something with it on it, but they didn't. The history about all of this is soooo interesting! The near by restaurants are awesome! The little shops are quaint, full of friendly people. The place of the shootout, over on the railroad track side is incredible! Still have sluggs stuck in the wall...
