The Burkle Estate museum was an awesome experience! My heart and attention was captured from start to finish. Our tour guide was full of knowledge. learning how our ancestors were treated and the tour of the house (specifically the hidden underground door) made the story telling come alive. I walked away with a new appreciation for what our ancestors endured. Will definitely recommend this tour to anyone who has time while visiting Memphis.

I enjoyed the tour, even though it's a small house it has displays in each room and well done pre-recorded audio with some history and stories on slavery in the US. At the end you see a small cellar and the crawl space below the house where they hid people. No pictures allowed inside. Free on-site parking.

This tiny little museum is worth going out of your way for a visit. The story told by this house leaves a mark on your soul. I will come again when my kids are older so they can understand what a tragedy slavery truly was and see for themselves the hardships slaves had to endure.

I have visited this museum on two occasions. The first occasion 6 or 7 years ago and during the summer of 2022. The host was rude, too much information not relating to the house, too much stuff in the house. The tour felt rushed. If you a human there for the tour they should be the one to speak during the tour not the tapped presentation. There was a huge difference from the first visit to the second and there were more holes in the cellar that were not there before. When asked questions about the validity of the claim the host was defensive. And please for the Love of God all of those slave ads and newspapers clipping that are just photo copied go get them copied on paper that looks antique, Take some of the images off of the walls. And for God sake slow down!! The tour was too fast and questions were...

Like I said before my ancestors went through pure hell!!!! GOD was always with them especially when it came to some escaping!!!! They way they sing coded hymns and making coded quilts!!!! My African people were smart...a lot of them lost there lives only for the best. GOD had the White men and women to help them out that's why I say all white people are not bad people a lot of white people were against slavery... We must remember that!!! Thank GOD for there help. I learned so much there. I cried and smiled.. What an experience I...

Totally enjoyed the tour of the purple estate and the slave safe Haven underground railroad exhibit it was way cool and I learned so much that was not taught to me in any history class and it was just so much to take in emotionally and physically it was a unique experience and I am so glad that I came to Memphis and got to have this experience and learn so much thank you for keeping your establishment open during these tough times and doing such a great job keeping people informed as to how others need to be treated and how we should not go back to...
