Metamora Courthouse in Metamora, Illinois. Beautiful. Simple. Built in 1845. Still standing. Now serving as an educational museum. Exhibits include 1850’s court system and Lincoln’s life then. The histories of Woodford County during the time prior to, including and after Abraham Lincoln practicing law in this very Courthouse. This is one of only two Courthouses still in existence in Illinois where Lincoln once practiced as a lawyer. Remember, the method of transportation between towns was riding your horse… or...

This is a nice visit back in time. The courtroom upstairs has the original floor and much of the furniture. It was a great experience knowing Abraham Lincoln shared the courtroom back in the day. Ask about his defense case as an attorney for defendant, Melissa Goings. There are informative staff members and lots of articles and items on display. We’re...
