Sandspur Island — Attraction in Miami Beach

It is a great weekend activity to rent some kayaks( we rented from the oleta park, it was $50 an hour for a two person kayak) and kayak all the way to the island, it took us about 25-30 mins to get there. If you're going to see the raccoons, please bring them water! They were parched when we saw them and drank all of our water. They enjoyed really sweet fruits, their favorites were grapes and apples. Went there yesterday. Rented the kayak at the state park. Didn't see one single raccoon. Later found out from some locals that they have been removed. Upon our return, we asked at the kayak rental about them and were told they were dying off and had been removed. Wish someone had told us that before even going. We cut our trip at Key West short just to come see the raccoons. So disappointing. And the state park is horrendous on accommodations and...
