Calling all condiment connoisseurs and curious foodies! If you're anywhere near Middleton, Wisconsin, the National Mustard Museum is a pungent pilgrimage you simply can't miss. Forget stuffy exhibits and dusty displays – this vibrant haven for all things mustard is a sensory explosion waiting to happen.
From the moment you walk in, the friendly docents greet you with smiles as contagious as a dollop of horseradish mustard. Their passion for the humble seed is infectious, and they'll happily regale you with mustard's fascinating history (did you know most American mustards hail from Canada?). Don't be surprised if your next sandwich craves a touch of Dijon!
But the real magic unfolds at the tasting bar. Eagerly, the docents guide you through a vibrant rainbow of mustards, from fiery ghost peppers to delicate lavender dreams. Each sample unlocks a new culinary landscape, leaving your taste buds dancing with delight. Fear not, timid tongues – milder options abound, and the knowledgeable staff knows just how to tailor the tasting to your palate.
And if you're a mustard maestro in the making, the museum's retail haven is your El Dorado. Hundreds of jars from across the globe line the shelves, each promising a unique twist on the classic condiment. Whether you're a garlic devotee or a chipotle champion, your perfect mustard match awaits.
But the fun doesn't stop at flavor. A playful trivia game tests your mustard mettle, while a ring toss game lets you channel your inner Dijon Robin Hood. And for those seeking to spread the mustard love, the gift shop overflows with adorable chotchkies and quirky souvenirs.
While the suggested donation is a mere $2, the National Mustard Museum offers an experience worth its weight in gold (or, perhaps, Dijon). It's a delightful blend of education, entertainment, and pure, unadulterated mustard magic. So, grab your hot dog bun (or pretzel, or bagel – options abound!), and head to Middleton for a truly unforgettable condiment adventure.
Bonus Tip: Don't leave without exploring the charming town of Middleton afterward. Quaint shops and cozy cafes beckon, offering the perfect...
Read moreThis museum was great, but it really discriminated against ketchup. As an open minded individual, I’m fine with the idea of a mustard museum, so long as it also has at least at least a small bit of respect for ketchup. This establishment, however, does not carry any sort of respect for ketchup, and blindly sings the praises of mustard, without even giving a passing mention to ketchup, and all the good it’s done for the progression of condiments. This museum is a great catalog of the achievements of mustard, with well thought out exhibits, showing off the feats and applications of mustard throughout the years, and I would recommend it to any mustard supporter or devotee. I would not recommend this museum to ketchup supporters, as I feel it would offend them as much as it has offended me. I will not be returning to the mustard museum, but if you are a supporter of mustard or just interested in its history, I would highly recommend this museum.

Edit: I received a response from the owner, they said “Our battle with ketchup is tongue in cheek and it is meant to be humorous and almost all of our visitors see it that way. Well, not all - you are the only visitor in 27 years to find offense. For that, I apologize but our good-natured fight with ketchup will continue.” I don’t think you understand how violent and misleading your museums propaganda campaign against ketchup has been. Because of your establishments blatant lying and fear mongering, hundreds lay dead in the streets, and all ketchup supporters can do is stand by and watch. You have single handedly toppled the ketchup economy, and this is a crime that can not be forgiven. I will be creating a resistance through which to stop your gross violation of our basic condiment rights. Expect...
Read moreListen, I've been around the block a few times, not just in Middleton, WI, but all over the world. I've never seen a place like the Mustard Museum. It is one of a kind...and that's the beginning. Holding the Guiness Book of World Records award for having the most mustards under one roof is a good start. But the journey through the store is an event of its own--and then, there's the museum. Bring your tastebuds and some money for purchasing your tasty treasures. Then open your mind to a world of mustardly amazing history and legend. This is a destination place. Aside from being in a lovely mid-western town--Middleton, the museum is an experience second to none. Plan to spend at least 90 minutes so you can soak in more than a few free samples and the finest mustard history and humor in the hemisphere. Curator, Barry Levinson, is a master of history, humor and is on a mission (still) to continue educating humanity about everything "mustard". In the summer, you can even attend "National Mustard Day" and taste Mustard Custard. Yes, it is quite yummy. One of my favorite epicurean sites of amazement, the National Mustard Museum should be on your list of places to see before you die. Heaven forbid you live without experiencing the rapture of mustard over the doldrums of ketchup. Next stop, a...
