My family and I were turned away today because we didn’t bring a certificate for my service animal, a small and elderly, trained and well-behaved dog, in his vest, and me with my cane, visible tremors, and medical ID. The Americans with Disabilities Act clearly states that I am not required to show “proof,” but I was not even given the opportunity to demonstrate the services my dog provides. The manager, Mike, simply told me to call their lawyer when I brought up the ADA. I understand that the service animal thing has been abused by people trying to take their snakes on airplanes and stuff but this was NOT that. As a person with life-threatening illnesses I have suffered a lot in isolation this last year, and just wanted to enjoy a nice day out with my family, including our young daughter. As a person with disabilities I want to enjoy the same luxuries that able-bodied people can. We were very saddened by this treatment today, and Mike, if you are reading this, be assured that I absolutely WILL be getting in touch with...
Read moreBeautiful beach, but a rip-off considering the amenities (porta potty toilets, no trash disposal, etc.), and the employee directing the cars at the entrance is absolutely the worst. Unfortunately we didn’t get his name. He is in his 60s and works barefoot. He should not ever be allowed to work with people. We were confused by the signage (which appears too late and does not make sense if you’re visiting for the first or second time) and entered the wrong lane, which isn’t such big of a deal because in the end the lanes merge anyway. But just because we look young, he assumed that we wanted to cheat and sneak in for free (which obviously was not the case). He was extremely rude from the very first minute and literally made one of our friends cry. Though we had already paid for parking, we decided to leave immediately and not come back to avoid meeting that person ever again. I hope he gets fired because no one should ever cry because of him. If you’re his employer and you reading this, his shift was on Saturday,...

First Beach (or Easton’s Beach) can get very crowded and doesn’t smell great at times, while Third Beach is quite small and faces the Sakonnet River rather than the open ocean. Second Beach combines the best of both. It is easily the largest of the three, with over a mile stretch of sand. There are less seaweed/algae issues here than at Easton’s, but there is still a magnificent cliff face on the western edge of the beach. Purgatory Chasm is located there, if you want a break from the water it can make nice hike! The only drawback is the price for parking, and since it’s significantly farther from Newport it’s not as easy to walk to. It really is a beautiful beach though, would highly recommend checking it out if...
