The grounds lay on a beautiful lake which was great for kayaking and water activities but the grounds or perhaps the visitors need a little more TLC. I'll summarize at the start by saying I'd certainly go again but would never desire to go on a busy weekend and would pick a different site and provisions.

I visited the Monday after Father's Day and in my opinion nearly $40 for 1 night seemed a bit costly for a non-electric tent site. The site was very small and at least others were a bit bigger. 700 was located right next to the road and around 7am a few cars drove by and have a feeling of unease while in my tent but alas there weren't other good spots on the site to pitch. Sites are right next to each other so primitive campers likely won't desire this.

The tent sites in the 700 area could have kayaks launched from near by. With 2 people it was easy to walk them about 20 yards down hill and to the shallow shore rather than driving them across the grounds to the boat launch area.

Bathrooms are decent out door vault systems. They didn't seem to smell. No sinks in the men's bathrooms near the tent sites and shower house was separate. The sit-down toilet in the men's rooms were not enclosed and separated by a small divider wall and no door for any privacy.

I'd say the biggest disappointment I had was that there seemed to be a lot of scattered litter around the camp sites. Empty chip bags, little plastics from individual wrappers and some litter and discharged fireworks along the shoreline by campsites was frustrating to see especially when there were close proximity garbage containers

On the other hand there was sand volleyball playground and even an interesting outdoor recreational area near the beach, which seemed to include a stationary bike. The disc golf course seemed to have a few holes near that beach area but falls close to the water and I would be reluctant to play those holes with my decent discs but I suppose it was nice to have as an option.

The last bone to pick was the firewood sold at the front. It's cheap at $5/bundle but you can't see in the bags and you can't pick them yourself. The issue I had was the 2 bags we bought we're just thin 1 inch outcuts of a tree. It was well seasoned but with such thing cuts it all burned way too fast. Had we known that then we'd have brought or bought wood...

My family & I recently tent camped @ the Main Campground of Charles Mills. There are 3 sections to this campground; Eagle Point, the Beach Campground & the Main Campground. Eagle Point was located across the street from Beach and Maine Campground. We really didn't explore this area. The Beach campground area is primitive (no electric) but more spacious, surrounded by trees & lake. Grills, picnic tables, Bathrooms all near by! The Main Campground is where we stayed. Most of the area is occupied by RV/pop-up's. The bathrooms were actual bathrooms along with showers! Bathrooms were wheelchair accessible as well. Such an added bonus! Washers and dryers were available for a small fee.

There was a food truck available. You can purchase ice and firewood at the main entrance. Nearest store was approximately 15 mins away. Everyone in the community was super nice. The property is very clean! Our campsite was a little small but enough to have a canopy, 2 tents. They provide a picnic table and fire pit. It was perfect for us.

Check in is at 4, Check out is at 2!

Next door, we rented a Pontoon boat! I highly recommend it!! We rented it for 2 hours, 8 person boat for the 3 of us. We loved that it provided shade & had a great stereo! Total cost was $170 but definitely worth the memories. If you wish to fish, you must have an active fishing license. You can rent fishing boats, kayaks & larger Pontoon boats. I highly recommend this campground!

The Lake was beautiful along with the property.

We will...

I have a 40ft 5th wheel and had a horrible time pulling into the back in sites, 1-7. They are at a 90° angle off a narrow paved road with the other side being a ditch. I drove onto the grass a little to get more room. But because of all the recent rain, the grass/soil was soaked, and it sucked me into the ditch. With the weight behind me, I got stuck. I tried to pull forward but was spinning in the mud. I called a tow truck driver but not what you need after a long day of driving. Even the ranger said these back in sites are terrible because the road is too narrow. The lake sites are on a hill and paved but still hard to get level. The water hook up was unusual as well, and I didn't get water until the next morning.

The next morning was peaceful around the lake until the tracters were scraping debris on concrete screeching right below me by the lake for hours. That finally stopped, and I asked if I could stay one more night due to upcoming bad weather on my route, and they said I have to move sites. That my site was booked. After all the trouble I had backing in, there was no way I was going to attempt that again. And they were not understanding or sympathetic whatsoever at the office. The guy was very apethetic as if i were invisible. If they had pull through sites or a wider road, the lake itself was peaceful and nice, but after all that I would not...
