My visit to Edison Birth Place was truly remarkable. I was blown away by the level of care and attention given to preserving the historical site. It was clear to me that the staff are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of this important piece of history.
During the tour, our guide provided us with a wealth of knowledge about Thomas Edison and his family. I was thoroughly impressed by their expertise and passion for the subject matter. They were also incredibly personable and made our family feel comfortable asking questions and engaging in discussion.
The house itself was a fascinating look into the early life of Thomas Edison and in general life during the late 1800's to early 1900's. Seeing where he was born and some of his inventions was truly inspiring. The exhibits and artifacts on display were informative and engaging, allowing me to gain a deeper understanding of Edison's life and work.
Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to Edison Birth Place. The staff's dedication to preservation and the guide's expertise and personable nature made for an unforgettable experience. I left feeling inspired and grateful for the opportunity to visit such an important...
Read moreTook a drive North to the small town of Milan, Ohio.
Often pass it but have never stopped, for those who still haven't, nestled on the end of town next to its canal (which at one point was the second most popular canal in the world for transporting grain) lies the 1841 structure that was the childhood home (birth, ages 1-7) of one of the the world's greatest inventors, Thomas Edison.
A $9, 45minute guided tour offers a deeper glimpse into the homes history, which is still the original build and structure, as well as shows you the room in which Edison was born and houses some great Edison artifacts. The home is still owned and operated by Edison descendants and runs soley off of visitor funding, as its not part of the NPS.
Our tour guide was awesome, and it was defintely worth the drive and cost. I would highly recommend the trip for any history buff and anyone else really who cares about...
Read moreAs an educator, I was excited to stop here with my children as we drove from D.C. to South Bend, Indiana. I felt that it would be a great pit stop. While I thought that the museum was interesting, I was disappointed in our tour guide, Melissa. Our children are elementary-aged and the other children on the tour appeared to be around the same ages. The tour guide was extremely rude and talked at the children versus engaging them by asking them questions. My kids were excited to do the scavenger hunt and rather than being enthusiastic about it, the tour guide was in a huff about it. I thought the town of Milan and the museum were great, but the tour guides need to remember who their audience is and how to interact in a pleasant manner or they will lose customers, which are needed to keep...
