I love it when you walk into an antique store, and there's furniture piled on top of furniture, and the stuff(tm) is buried six layers deep. It means there's probably no emotional attachment from the owner, and you can actually walk out without getting screwed over.
Warning: the owner's mom's old kitchen table is for sale. Yes, it's actually reasonably priced, but he will act like you're about to steal his soul if you point at it. This can be exploited for entertainment.
My apartment currently has six pieces from Tom's shop, and I love all of them. He even delivered three of them, with free wax rub, and was all sheepish when I tried to hand him a few bucks when I realized he actually drove a few miles out of his way instead of mixing errands like he said he was going to do.
Tom, the owner, is a great guy, though he's definitely of the "talk your ear off as a sales strategy" school, which is great when you're digging for information and recommendations, but God help you if you have it down to a few pieces and it's all down to a complicated decision of personal taste.
