Visited here for my first time this past Saturday and was actually surprised on how much I enjoyed it.
It's $22 to park if your a non resident, if you live in CT its free.
First off its a long walk from the parking lot to the beach but you can at least walk over wooden ramps rather than sand like other beaches.
I really loved hw many shells were every where, I was actually pretty amazed. Also found a dead horse shoe crab. My husband was swimming and felt something on his foot so he went to pick it up and it was a LIVE horse shoe crab, first time for everything lol.
The water wasn't to cold for an August day. You cant see your feet through the water which sketches me out every time. It was also very rocky when entering the water.
At low tide the water starts to part and you can walk out pretty far, did not try and walk to the island though.
There is a snack bar with picnic tables and a nice view of the ocean, I did not check and see what they had or the prices but my friend got a jumbo shrimp pate with fires and it...

The sharp rows of shells are troublesome trying to get in or out of the water. I'm thinking I'd like to rake a path thru them for people to use to enter or leave the water. It would be great if the staff took care of it. I also wish there were some trees on that beachfront for shade. They need more shaded picnic tables too. A grilling area would be nice. But the best idea is a washing station to get the sand off your feet with a bench for putting your shoes on somewhere near the boardwalk entrance. The lifeguards are vigilant. The water feels great. The sun is relentless. Don't burn up out there! Have...
Read moreSilver Samds, a CT State Park, is a delightful escape with great access to Salt Water, Sand and Fresh Air. The most unique feature is its sand bar, exposed at full low tide, to allow a dry walking path to Charles Island. Excellent wheelchair accessibility via over a mile of wide board walking paths; from parking area along full length of beach and into Milford's ajacent Walnut Beach. Great beach to take the kids with its safe water areas with gradual depth changes and large flat sand areas, with many interesting rocks and shells. Good parking but designed as a carry in carry out, so minimal trash receptacles. So everyone needs to do their part to keep it clean and beautiful ! Enjoy...
