I haven't been to Silver Sands in quite a few years, so I was pleased with all the updates that have been made with the boardwalk. I have to say the parking for handicap accessibility is still a very small area.... which is a bummer. I wish the beach wasn't as covered in broken shells/rocks. That being said, it is a beach, it's kind of hard to avoid without the town having to rake it every single day. If you're looking for a beach that is all smooth sand, this isn't the beach for you. Other than the handicap parking and the shells/rocks being hard to walk on with bare feet, I had a great day with my sister and niece's. I'll definitely be going back soon. I would like to add that they do have lifeguard on duty and that they are very strict about bringing any of those wave boards or even balls into the water. It's to keep the public safe so I understand but figured I'd give anyone a heads-up so you're not lugging something to the beach you and or the kids can't even play with if it's your intention to play with it in the water. Also, I did see signs posted that dogs aren't permitted to go on the beach.

Absolutely beautiful place to visit. Gorgeous views in all directions. Perfect for taking pictures. The boardwalk is fantastic and an excellent place to walk or push a stroller. The beach is rocky and shelly and I would suggest water shoes. However, once in the water the sand is smooth. Low tide is amazing as you can walk way out. Fun finding shells, crabs, snails, many different birds - when walking along the boardwalk we looked over and saw hundreds of little crabs running in the mud! The bathhouse is gorgeous and the cleanest I've ever seen. I think there are concessions but none on the weekday in the summer that I was there. There were several lifeguards on duty and they were enforcing no balls or skim boards in the water. Also no walking on the sandbar covered in water - apparently it's very dangerous to do so. Parking was free for CT residents and out of state had to pay a fee. All in all this place is a must visit. I would highly recommend!

Silver sands is one of my favorite beaches and has been for years. Even on cloudy days, this is a great place to visit, especially if you like hermit crabs and birds. The staff and volunteers maintain the area and keep it free of errant plants and trash, it's become such a great space to visit with young kids. It didn't always have bathrooms and showers, somewhere to get fresh water, French fries or ice cream, a lifeguard station. Pretty much up until a few years ago, it had a few sets of porta potties, a few water spigots for rinsing feet and water fountains that didn't work. Now there's a pier, boardwalk, changing room, water saving toilets, life guard and EMS station you can visit, and a whole spacious beach to spread out on. I'd recommend visiting!

Absolutely gorgeous. We strolled along the boardwalk one Friday afternoon in late summer and it couldn’t have been more aww inspiring. The warm breeze, the sun, the sand. There weren’t a lot of people around but there was still some foot traffic and people on bikes. Not a lot of dogs and none off leash that I could see. There was kite flying and wind surfing. Some beach chairs and pop up tents. There’s also a great little cafe with everything from coffee and drinks to ice cream and chips and some quick meals like hot dogs and sandwiches. I was happy to grab a strawberry shortcake ice cream and enjoy the view. When the tide is right you can walk out onto a small island near the beach. Very cool. I’ll definitely come back again!!

Discovered this beach when a close friend had an internship in CT. I have been to this beach several times since then. It’s great for the most part. Medium-sized, clean and not overly crowded. The sand bar’s interesting. I’ve never walked more than a small distance out because I’d rather not get stranded due to the tide. They didn’t charge out-of-state vehicles before. I’m not overly surprised they do now, but as an out-of-state visitor can’t say I’m happy about it. Especially since it seems a little high. I pay to visit certain state parks in NJ and NY too but it’s usually not $20+.

It was my first visit to this state park beach. I was looking for a new beach to go to that had bathroom accommodations and easy parking and this place is pretty cool, bathrooms are nice and clean, don't know yet what it's going to be like in the hot summer since it's about 65 degrees out on the day I visited it. It's also a state park which makes it free to all CT residents , if you go down the side street on the left of the main parking area there's handicap parking that's right next to the beach and restroom, otherwise the main parking lot is quite a distance from the beach and restrooms
