I went with an 11 years old boy not convinced he'd have a good time. He was very happy to be able to be with nature. We met one of the Parks Educators who was going thru the trails pulling up foreign species and she was super helpful. Wendy, her name, showed us the odd and small mushrooms that have been growing there and I had no idea if it wasn't for her obviously. We also saw a beautiful Magnolia tree and she also educated us on it and the various Ferns, both being ancient plants that precede dinosaurs. It took us a good hour and a half to go thru the trails. They've done a good job! There were little kids from the camp, which seems fun for younger kids and I would recommend it! Super affordable and they are in constant contact with nature and some animals. Later once the camp ended the Educators let my boy touch a garden snake and bunny, and explained a thing or two about them. They have several bigger snakes there. It's a good place for kids to bring them for a couple of hours the most. Its better to avoid the campers if you want them to enjoy the animals. They leave at 3pm so one can go an hour later and come back from the woods by then. Please help with a small donation of whatever you can as they don't get funding from government, and it's run by charities. Check their website for events all year round. They have a liking event in early November that I plan to attend. Also it's ideal for a team building activity from around the area. They need volunteers to clear trails, rid of foreign vegetation, etc. Call Nicole Esposito for that. Her name is listed in...

As a nature photographer and a parent, I cannot recommend Cora Hartshorn Arboretum and Bird Sanctuary enough! This preserve is an absolute gem, and it is one of the best places in New Jersey to explore nature with your family.

The knowledgeable and friendly staff is always on hand to answer questions and guide visitors through the beautiful sunlit hiking trails. Whether you're an experienced hiker or a novice, the staff will help you find the perfect trail for your skill level and interests.

The indoor animal exhibits are a must-see. They're beautifully designed and provide an up-close look at some of the animals that call the preserve home. From mammals to reptiles and amphibians, the exhibits are educational and engaging for visitors of all ages.

Outside, the nature-themed play area is a fantastic way to encourage children to explore and connect with the natural world. It's beautifully designed and a great way to get kids excited about spending time outdoors.

Cora Hartshorn Arboretum and Bird Sanctuary also hosts birthday parties, which is a great way to celebrate a child's special day while encouraging them to learn about and appreciate nature.

The bathroom facilities are family-friendly and available for visitors, making this preserve a great option for families with young children.

Overall, I would give Cora Hartshorn Arboretum and Bird Sanctuary a five-star rating without hesitation. This preserve is a true treasure, and it's an essential destination for anyone who wants to teach their children about the natural world and the...

Walkability – A wonderful spot for a peaceful, refreshing walk. I came for the first time, and it was already a little chilly with the first signs of fall—the leaves just starting to drop. At the entrance, I picked up a trail map, which made exploring easy. Photography – A great place to capture nature! I spotted many chipmunks and even a few deer, along with some lovely flowers. Perfect for nature and wildlife photos. Maintenance – The grounds are well-kept, and the staff is very friendly. Everything feels cared for. Parking – There’s no on-site parking, so you’ll need to park along the street nearby. Admission – Free entry to enjoy the trails, which makes it even better. Hours – Open every day, so you can visit whenever it fits your schedule.

✨ Overall – A hidden gem for a relaxing walk and some nature photography. I’ll definitely be coming back in autumn to enjoy the vibrant colors...

This place was bigger than I thought. I believe there is 3 miles of trails. Some birds spotted were goldfinches, downy and hairy woodpeckers, and a white breasted nuthatch. There was also a species of butterfly I have never seen before, saw three flying around. They are called a "mourning cloak" butterfly and they are hard to spot when they land. When wings are open they have beautiful bright blue spots. You can see some closed wings pics I took. Did not get to go inside the building this time but will certainly visit again!
