I take the train from Short Hills to New York a few times per week. When I look at this building I'm not thinking about a bar or a restaurant, I'm thinking, "this is where I have to go to get to work". I'm thinking, "this just looks like a train station that was built a century ago and was converted into a bar and restaurant for the sake of modern times". That being said, I do see people in here on cold early what, drinking coffee and whatnot. I do not think that the early morning activity is in any way affiliated with this review. I'm talking to all you people who have to get to New York for work. As far as my review for the "Boxcar Bar", The food was good and the drinks were good and the service was okay. It's a bar with food. Don't expect anything special, but it should meet your expectations. I live in Springfield so I'm happy this place is close for the evening hours. They close relatively early. Try it out. I would come here again and again. As long as it's AFTER work... you know...
Read moreThe owner, Shawn, escorted my friend and I personally to the table. He was so warm and personable, it was like going to an old familiar place I had been to a thousand times. The interesting part is that my friend and I were in town from out of state for business and we were not even possible repeat customers.
Shawn offered us an appetizer, the rice balls, and they were delicious!! Highly recommend!! My friend ordered the Burrito Shrimp Bowl and said it was amazing and I had the evening's special, a chicken dish that was prepared with lemon sauce. It was to die for.
On top of the excellent service, the fantastic food, it was my birthday and Shawn was kind enough to have the entire place sing Happy Birthday to me. Shawn even treated me to a birthday dessert, a chocolate wonder!
I must say I was bummed to have to be away at a business meeting for my birthday, but Shawn made it very memorable, with delicious food and wonderful customer service!
Thank you so...
Read moreBox car has to be one of the coolest and best kept secrets. It is legit inside the Short Hills train station. Transformer meets cuisine. I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve lived in the area for a couple of decades and have never had the pleasure of stopping in before. Well, today everything changed. From the time we walked in until the time we walked out everyone on the team here was extremely welcoming and spot on professional. We had the distinct pleasure of having Carlos take care of us tonight. He is the consummate professional, and went completely out of his way to make sure we were satisfied. He recommended amazing menu options. The cocktails and entrée were expertly prepared, truly delicious and made with the absolute finest ingredients. Treat yourself and your family to a great experience and go to boxcar today! God Bless America! God Bless Blue & Gold! Remember Everyone...
