Northern Lights Ballroom & Banquet Center — Attraction in Milo Township

I couldn't have asked for a better experience from day one! I went in there right away telling them about what disappointments I had when touring and speaking with other establishments and how poor they were with their communication and return calls and emails and Northern Lights was the complete opposite. Every time I asked her (Bryony) something she was back with the answer in an email that day or the next day. She always had the information I wanted and valuable extra information she thought I might want. Their professionalism was excellent and they were very kind, patient and polite with me. One thing that meant a lot to me was when I initially signed I mentioned that wedding planning was not something I was real excited about doing because both my parents were deceased and I didn't really want a big wedding but my fiancée wanted it so I was going along with it for him. She told me she would help make it fun and she did help a lot and was very sensitive to that along the way which meant so much. They are very detail oriented in the planning and keep checking on items that need to be done without hounding you. The venue is beautiful and well kept for a reasonable price. The food was excellent. We received rave reviews. Our guests told us it was some of the best wedding food they have ever had! Thanks Wendy and staff for that! Especially the roast beef which is usually dry! The day of wedding planner was very helpful and receptive to our needs. She was very easy to find if we needed her which was very little. She was usually looking for us to ask if we were ok or needed anything. The servers and barstaff were friendly and polite. I have not one complaint about this place. We both said that. When I first started working with Northern Lights I was happy with all the service I received. I live out of state so they worked with me with each step. However, when the day of the wedding came, I felt completely ignored. We arrived at the hall at noon to get ready and do pictures. The staff didn't interact with me at all. The first time I saw the staff they were doing a tasting with another couple. We were having difficulty finding where we could plug in the ipod for the ceremony. My bridesmaids tried to talk to her and received short and curt replies saying that " someone would be here in an hour to help". This made me worry during pictures and everything else about how the ceremony would go. We were starting to try to figure out back up plans. This lady continued to ignore my wedding party and I while she gave the other couple a tour and talked with them for a couple hours. The tour came through into the ballroom we were doing pictures. I felt like we were a part of a museum. If I would have been told and perhaps asked about this tour before hand I think it would have been fine. I am not sure when another member of the staff showed up but it was much later than when we first arrived. Bryony helped me immensely and answered questions that I had. She helped me throughout the ceremony and reception with the flow of the event. I was very disappointed with how I was treated the first couple hours that I was there. I should have taken precedence that day versus a couple that "might" book with them. My husband and I paid them to have use the banquet hall and their staff for that whole day until 12:30 pm. My wife and I recently were married at Northern Lights Ballroom and also had a fantastic reception take place at the same location! The challenge of planning a wedding and reception during the era of COVID-19 was a monumental task, but the staff at Northern Lights was helpful at every juncture helping us figure out how we could maintain our October 17th Wedding date! Not only was the Ballroom and Event Center beautifully decorated but it had a great staff that was organized and professional. The day of our wedding was made so much easier by the event coordinators on the premises overing all the details so that myself, my wife, and friends and family could all enjoy the day! Food service, food, appetizers all was amazing, as the major compliments that all of our guests had was how great the food was and how wonderful the place looked!
