Because it’s East Bay, the wind that blows over the terrain of the hills gets trapped so when you climb high up, it gets very gusty. However, I think it’s worth it because you get to see the smaller man-made lake and the reservoir. It’s quite pretty to go at sunset and watch the light scatter on the water.

It is also a much better vantage point to see the layers and LAYERS of hills on top of each other. It looks really surreal like something out of Lord of the Rings!!

There’s a flag pole at one of the higher photo spots and that’s when I usually head back. You can also just take a stroll around the lake if you don’t want to deal with all the scratchy weeds and bugs on the trails, which there are plenty of.

The best time to come is March through mid-May while the yellow wild flowers still bloom and before the hills dry up.

The bathrooms are right in front of the parking lot and get cleaned frequently. I guess that’s what the $6...

It’s a nicely maintained park in the Milpitas mountains! Sandy wool lake is home for so many bird species - from cormorants to foot to mallards! There are many pictures tables with bbq spots spread around the lake! Some have shade. There are few kids playing structures too but not near lake. There is a divider that keeps lake on one side and the play structures on the other. But kids love to run up and down the divider slope! Many parking spots are available. The park has $6 fee which is common for any Santa Clara county parks or you can buy an annual pass for 95 and enjoy any park through out the year! Overall, a good place for day picnics! I saw a board that fishing is not allowed in...

Sandy Wool Lake is located in Ed R. Levin County Park in Milpitas. It's a lovely area around a beautiful lake. There are multiple parking lots and hence there is ample parking space available. There is a dog park where you can take your dogs around. We also saw some horses in am area there. There is a circular track around the lovely lake. There are birds around and you can walk around to the children's play area which is nearby. A fantastic place to visit with family...
