We hiked to Eliot Tower & the weather observatory from the ski area parking lot. It was good to get out early as afternoon highs reached the mid-90s. Anyway, four people and 2 dogs had a great time. The trails were in very good shape and other than a fair amount of litter, it was perfect.
We started around 8 and there was very little traffic for the most part. The trails in Blue Hills have loads of intersections and therefore provide lots of options -- I'd venture you could never hike the same hike twice there so even if your destination is the same 'peaks' how you get there can change from hike to hike.

Read moreThe Elliot tower isn’t as nice as the observatory, but it’s always open and it’s free. The views of Boston are pretty impressive. You can also see the Boston Harbor and maybe, on exceptionally clear days, places further. We went on the clearest day in a while and saw Monadnock.
The trail to the top is a little steep and rocky, but my three year old was able to make it on her own. It’s perfect for kids. They also allow dogs so you tend to see a lot.
