This trailhead begins at the parking lot and follows along the south edge of the finger out to the overlook, which is approximately 1.8 miles with an elevation gain of 164 feet. In our opinion, this trail is the most scenic in the park and this out-and-back hike where you will experience breathtaking vistas, fascinating geological formations, and an unforgettable hiking experience. Once you reach the overlook, make sure, but only if you can, climb to the top of the rocks where the grandeur of this view is simply unparalleled. As with all hikes in the desert, remember to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and a healthy dose of curiosity and trust us, the views are well worth the effort.

We were lucky enough to get to the visitor center and then drive out to the view point in time to hear a half hour Geology presentation by one of the park rangers! He really helped us to understand why the land looks the way it does now, how it looked in the past, uses by various humans and the overall history. This made our trip even more meaningful.

This was a decent trail with a few stairs. Relatively easy, I did not use trekking poles for this and I struggle with mobility. Beautiful views as the trail hugs the escarpment. 1 mile trail one direction. Some rocky areas and steps about 12 inches in height over hard rock.
