First half of this is for the Visitor's Center, which I would give 2 stars- all the other parks and Visitor's Centers had their own postings on Google, so I had to combine. This poor place was just demolished. Staff seemed tired, and bored, and the shop was destroyed, and had nothing worthwhile. For a Wednesday, they sure seemed overwhelmed. One ranger in the building was nice and helpful, but she was the only one of four we talked to who gave us a little of their time. The park itself is amazing, and well kept, but the visitor's center was sad. Of the Nevada State Parks visitor centers we have visited, this was the worst by far. I am really glad we spent some extra time at the one next to Cathedral Gorge.
The Park! Amazing, worth every minute you can spend walking around this place. From fossils, to petroglyphs, and some.of the prettiest, most alien scenery I have ever seen, this place was great, 5 stars all the way. My family and I could probably spend a week here and still not see everything the park has to offer. It felt like a very well budgeted national park, and is far better than our one national park in Nevada. We didn't get much assistance from the rangers here, but as usual with Nevada State Parks, the park has signs stationed every where to help visitors along the way. See the photos for samples, and at least give this place a good drive through. Walk some of the canyons here, and see some beautiful art, from people and nature. Bring lots of water, and dress for...
Read moreAmazing park. This park is approximately 1 hour drive from Las Vegas. It is a state park, so the National Park Pass can't be used here. As an out-of-state visitor, my cost was $15. They provide an excellent map with information about some of the stops. I like that you get one or two sentences about what's there. It makes it easy to know what to look for. Of course, more detailed information is available at each site. There were plenty of restrooms and picnic areas with cover tables and benches. There's plenty of signage, and along with the map, you won't miss anything or get lost. The visitor center is cool with nice exhibits inside and out. There is a nice gift shop (I purchased water and a salad). Also, there is a film that runs continuously, and it gives the names of some of the plants and wildlife. It also shows the park in different seasons. To take the best photos, you should be there after sunrise or before sunset. The park is open from sunrise to sunset. After those times, you are considered trespassing. The walking trails signage gave distances. They didn't seem long, but it was 104 degrees on the day I visited, so I didn't do many of them. Initially, everything looked the same, but after my visit to the visitor center and studying the rock formations, I could definitely see more as I continued my scenic drive. I spent 4 1/2 hours there. If it had been cooler, I would have done more hikes. You can definitely spend a day here. Highly...
Read moreUpon arriving at Valley of Fire, our rental camper van ran into some unexpected issues. The e-brake would not disengage, and we were completely stuck. Luckily, we managed to hitch a ride to the welcome center where we were warmly greeted by Karol. She was a true gem and immediately contacted a ranger to let him know about our situation while we worked on next steps.
Not long after, Ranger Sean came to the rescue, and he was an absolute angel. He stayed with us for what felt like hours, even trying multiple times to disengage the e-brake himself. On top of that, he drove us back and forth to spots with cell service so we could call for help, and shuttled us between the welcome center and our camper until roadside assistance finally helped us with the issue via phone. His patience, kindness, and dedication made all the difference during what could have been a really stressful day.
We are beyond grateful for both Karol and Ranger Sean. They went above and beyond to help us in a hectic time, and their incredible support left such a positive impression on our visit. Valley of Fire is a beautiful place, and thanks to them, it will always hold a special...
