Many memories of this mysterious place throughout my life and it's great to see how well the community has kept pushing for its success. At one point it wasn't the best for fishing or nature walks to even running around the island and for the advanced trails bring your mountain bike and shoes tied tight because Sylvan Island has much to offer along with so much history to learn or teach if the little ones are with for the days adventure. This day I tried to see how many types of mushroom i could spot on this little island having found a half dozen easily in the short trip going around the island only once before I snagged a flat on the bike from the shale rock on the northwest side of the...

A great place for a Hike !!

I found this park on Google maps while looking for somewhere to jog and hike during a trip to Moline last year. This is a historic area as it's the former home of the Republic Steel mill which was shut down years ago. The island has hiking and mountain bike trails, its quiet and I did not see too many people there while on my hike. There are several trails on the island, so I had time to walk most of them. There are wooden outcrops that you can use for photos. The trails go in and around the island. You find find wildlife, birds, small animals, and the remnants of the old steel mill. This is a great...

I found this island looking for things to do after recently moving to Moline. My girlfriend and I love this place! Upon reading that it used to be a metal factory, and that the remnants remain, we had to go and see it. And it's a lovely island to be on! The trails lead you through heavily wooded scenery blended with crumbling concrete blocks and telltale signs that there used to be something there. The graffiti on nearly all the man-made portions makes this place feel straight out of a movie, and makes for awesome photography. We'll be back...

Unique park, with great views. I've been going here for over 20 years, and its always a lovely walk. A reclaimed Iron works the area features trails that wind through the old crumbling foundation. Mind you dont trip over bits of iron slag. The trails that edge the island make for some great views and offer good bord watching. Also a popular fishing spot. If your into plants and herbology, your spot quite a bit of biodiversity, such as sweetgum, mullen, and motherwort to neme a few. Well worth the drive to this little of the way spot.
