Many memories of this mysterious place throughout my life and it's great to see how well the community has kept pushing for its success. At one point it wasn't the best for fishing or nature walks to even running around the island and for the advanced trails bring your mountain bike and shoes tied tight because Sylvan Island has much to offer along with so much history to learn or teach if the little ones are with for the days adventure. I found this park on Google maps while looking for somewhere to jog and hike during a trip to Moline last year. This is a historic area as it's the former home of the Republic Steel mill which was shut down years ago. The island has hiking and mountain bike trails, its quiet and I did not see too many people there while on my hike. There are several trails on the island, so I had time to walk most of them. Read moreI found this island looking for things to do after recently moving to Moline. My girlfriend and I love this place! Upon reading that it used to be a metal factory, and that the remnants remain, we had to go and see it. And it's a lovely island to be on! The trails lead you through heavily wooded scenery blended with crumbling concrete blocks and telltale signs that there used to be something there. The graffiti on nearly all the man-made portions makes this place feel straight out of a movie, and makes for awesome photography. We'll be back...
