There are several "Depot Museums" within easy driving distance. Monterey has the best by far. Lots of local and regional history and a few times per year there are excursion trains. There is a nice little HO scale model showing the depot, downtown and local "color". Check out the bookshelf, the quilts and the coal related items and militaria while you're there. The staff are helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Oh - and be sure to get some of the coal soap. ...

I took the picture I'm going to attach of a fascinating hand-drawn map with many, many notes written about the mills and mines and families in the area.
