Been told about this place by a few people, as I now live only 10 mins away from here in my newly built home. Thought me and lil man would go check it out at the last minute tonight. First off, remember I'm kinda biased as I have loved cancuns in Crossville, TN since it opened many moons ago, back when I used to drink a lot and they would let me stay after closing to finish my drinks. Go figure I drank a lot as that is also where I met my X-Wife. "Hola Kimberly" Anyway. My point is their fajita Nacho is hard to beat on a bad day. And not just good it's piled high and a lot of it. Well Los Agaves in Monterey, TN can stand up to it easily. Me and my son both tried their fajita Nacho Jalisco, and it's good, Well that is an understatement. It's fantastic. Not as large a plate as my favorite place but I'm happier with a slightly smaller dish, I don't leave full as a tick that way and overloaded. They serve Ed the perfect amount to allow you to also cram down a bowl or two of freshly made nachos and a couple sides ofpperfect salsa and don't forget the cheese bowl. (On the cheese, you don't ever need the large bowl), unless you have multiple people, as it will go to waste, and that stuff is like eating pure gold🏆 as all places charge a full arm for the large bowl. And if you try to eat it all, it's to much to have a full dinner. Go with the small, save room for the bottom part of the plate after eating all the meats and vegetables off the top of your fajita nacho.
I have seen a lot of people that always stop when they get to those soggy chips at the bottom of their nachos, when it is the most flavor full section of the meal. By the time you make it there, , the freshly cooked nachos have now soaked in all the flavors from the vegetables, steak, chicken and shrimp. And it's like desert 🍰 after the main course. THE BOMB 🧨 !!! Try it, you will understand. If you can make it that far. So safe to say very identicle in flavor from completely different restaurants. Simply fantastic. Ill start eating here more often now that I have tried it. We were so late it was about closing time, was still absolutely great food. My son also had a steak of some sort. That was a little different though, could not tell if it was a pork steak or steak steak. Now don't get me wrong it was good, but makes you think when your just not quite sure if you got what you ordered. Anyway, I'm posting some great pics, check them out, food 🍲 was perfect, staff was friendly (even at closing) and the price was around half of what I'm used to paying "EVEN BETTER". So around $50 for two large chicken 🐤, steak 🥩, shrimp 🦐 fajita nachos, small bowl of super cheese 🧀, and a steak 🥩 (just to try it, cause why not?) It has what looks like a freshly remodeled bar also very nice, lots to choose from sitting on the wall, if you want a cocktail or a few shots of flaming 🔥🔥🔥 tequila, 😂 Go check it out, right on the main drag in Monterey, TN hard to miss. Looks kindly small on the outside, but it opens up huge inside, Thanks for having us, we enjoyed it very much so, We will come...
Read moreSKIP OUT ON THIS PLACE You'd think in a town called Monterey the Mexican food would be top-notch, but this establishment challenges that, wins that challenge, and runs with it.
Here's what I ORDERED: the Speedy Gonzales lunch special with a chicken enchilada, beef taco, rice, and tacked on beans for a little extra. What I GOT was no less than canned food heated up and served on a plate. The enchilada had more tortilla than chicken, the beef taco was a sad mash of flavorless ground "beef", the beans are literally La Preferida refried beans with no additional seasoning, and the rice (the best part of it all) was somehow both undercooked and overcooked. I cannot stress it enough that if a Mexican restaurant has a weak rice game, it's not even worth going to. All that aside, the only redeeming quality were the chips! Flaky, warm, almost like they were fried fresh. The establishment was clean, but nobody here wears masks. Almost like there's something in the water (which also happened to taste like it was straight from the toilet). We're in the middle of a pandemic and the staff is wearing their masks under their noses, even after being questioned about it.
All in all, by far the saddest Mexican restaurant experience off of I-40, but I still tipped my server. It's not their fault the cooks suck at their job, so they don't have to receive the short end...
Read moreWe were greeted and seated immediately, menus passed out to us and drinks served right away. The employees worked together very well and were extra friendly even after we spilled a drink at our table. The sweet tea is wonderful and the drink size is large. Our refills were always on time and the food was delivered quickly and hot. The portion size is above average of the meals including the kids meals. The quality and taste of everything was some of the best Mexican food I have ever had! The salsa and chips come out free before the meal. The salsa has a great taste but would be much better if it wasn't so thin. The seating is very comfortable, the decor is average but nice and the dining area and restrooms are very clean. When they brought the mop out to clean up my spilled drink the mop water even had a very clean smell to it. The service is very good. The prices would be considered cheap if compared to Cookeville prices for a similar meal. I live in Cookeville but would not hesitate to drive back to Monterey to eat here even given the good choices in Cookeville. I have only wonderful things to say about this place and will definitely be a...
