It is a nice little art museum and is free. Grounds seemed nice, the sculpture garden is a quick pass through, temporary exhibit was closed so no comment on it. The kids area is really designed for 8 and under, not engaging enough for my art loving teen or preteen. It can't be compared to the Guggenheim or Vatican Museum, but my 3 star rating isn't a reflection on the variety of the collection but from being stalked by guards. Never makes for an enjoyable experience. I have brought my 3 kids through art museums across Europe, NY, D.C. etc so they know how to behave. They are from 10 to 14 years, so not young. Despite this, there was never a guard more than 5 feet from me and my kids the entire time, constantly facing our direction despite other patrons in the area. I would be hard pressed to say this museum encourages family attendance if you don't intend to keep your children in the kid area only. Esp if you are a mom alone with your children.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts today. There were nearly all styles of painting and expression there. I was impressed by the presence of three Rembrandts, several Thomas Hart Bentons, and other well-known and local artists from Alabama. I enjoyed the exploration of culture at the intersection of Art. Upstairs is a small collection of African traditional masks and art. There is quite a bit of spiritism connected with these masks and art. I highly recommend to visit to this spacious, bright, and beautiful Museum in Alabama.

I visited during Covid in August and the museum was really closed, but there is a sculpture garden to one side and I was able to walk around that for free, plus there's one small circular gallery inside. Make sure to pick up a wristband at the gate, I had a lovely conversation with the lady there. It's not big but it's a wonderful tactile experience. You can go in the woven hut things, you can walk on the spongy grass, and the gurgling fountain and pool really did it for me! In short, it was a lovely little art surprise and it made my day.

Anything nice in Montgomery is exaggerated. That said there would be no shame in putting this museum and gallery anywhere. Pleasant walking, self guided tour with local, regional and international talent. If you're in Gump it's a worthwhile hour or more endeavor of your time.
