My hubby wanted Korean so we goggled - read reviews - said okay - let's give it a try. Don't let the area scare you away. Follow GPS directions. Find the door with the correct number above it, then immediately go to the next left door. That's the entrance. Now why did I say that when this is a food review. Because you will not see the words Kalim Garden on the door. There are four stores - all the signs are in Korean - so it was a bit confusing since neither speaks or understands the language. The food is fabulous and worth this small confusing moment. For starters, the Kimchi (김치 | gimchi) was so goooooooood. Each of these five dishes were wonderful to my taste buds. I ordered the Hot stone pot bibimbap (dolsot-bibimbap (돌솥 비빔밥). It was absolutely wonderful. Remember the pot is hot so stir it all together quickly to keep the rice on bottom from getting "over done". Maybe over done isn't the perfect way to describe it but since this is my review - I would say that's okay. My hubby ordered Bulgogi (불고기), also known as Korean BBQ beef, and white rice comes with this entree. Who doesn't love a good bulgogi? Yummy stuff! We shared - ate more than we should have - and got a to go box for the left overs. The to go box is full - guess what's for a late supper. We have tried several Korean restaurants in Montgomery but by far, Kalim Garden is hands down the BEST! The only other place that I have eaten Korean food this good has been from my Korean friend, Jin's, kitchen. The service was absolutely excellent. So if you are new to Korean eating - be open minded - try at least one bite of each item that comes to the table - don't go by looks alone and enjoy. As I tell my grand children - if you are hungry when we leave - I'll take you to McDonald's. (Thank goodness, they love Korean food!) Hope you enjoyed reading the review. I like to write reviews because I enjoy reading reviews with details so I know what I am getting when I visit a restaurant. (Korean writing is...
Read moreIt is always a treat to eat at Kalim. The service here is so attentive. During our last visit, Hee was our waitress and she made our dining experience delightful.
We ordered the jumbo donkatsu, kimchi jjigae with pork, seafood pancake and a small bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles). Everything was so tasty, especially the banchan - we had to get a second round of those. The donkatsu came with two large pieces of pork (bigger than my hands!) - the batter was nicely seasoned, the meat was tender and crispy. The kimchi stew was so flavorful with a mild kick, paired with some rice was a chef’s kiss. The pancake had a nice consistency - just the right amount of bite and crispiness. The cold noodles were so refreshing - nice blend of heat from the gochujang, savory from the cold broth, and freshness from the radish and cucumber. Already craving another visit while I’m writing this.
The seating here is within an enclosure so it gives guest a sense of privacy while dining. Loved the food, the service was so friendly and thoughtful, and atmosphere was cozy. This place is perfect for dates and...
Read moreWe came in a little after 130pm, ordered the meal set with spicy pork and tofu soup, spicy stir fry squid and egg soufle. There brought out five bon chons side dishes, all were nicely pickled.
Spicy stir fried squid was a big plate! That's surprising. We always order this dish at other restaurants and never got this much. Squid could be a tad spicier, sauce was a tad too thin, but tasted fine.
Bbq pork and tofu soup was amazing. I live in Cali and this place is on the top 5 best tofu soup I've had in the U.S. probably the best in the South. I never finish my soup, but I finished theirs. Was just a tad disappointed that my tofu soup didn't come out piping hot to where I can cook a raw egg in it. It doesn't come with a raw egg and it wasn't bubbling hot.
The egg soufle was also big for $3.99 I was expecting it to come out in a smaller stone pot. Overall food was great, wished there was more assortment of bonchons and a raw egg for my soup, but everything was fine. We will be back the next time...
