I love a park that feels built into nature. Robert Lake Park in Montreat, NC (just outside of Black Mountain) is one of my absolute favorite places to take my kids in WNC. It has a variety of structures that make it feel fun for kids who might be further apart in age. If water makes you anxious, this might not be the place for you. This park: -Away from the street -Swings for babies and big kids -Big and small play structures -Pavilions and picnic tables -Small streams and deeper creek -Bathrooms #blackmountain #montreat #blackmountainnc #828isgreat #wnc

Since 2012, we have been bringing our grandchildren to Montreat & specifically Robert Lake Park. While the park has a very nice variety of unique playground equipment the best excitement is wading in the Flat Creek. Every child we see in all ages is quickly walking in the shallow creek and balancing on rocks. Our grandkids have a special rock away from the main park (near the tennis courts), they call Lion King Rock. So each year we get their picture at LIon King Rock and other places as they walk the creek. We recommend bringing some type of water shoe for safety walking on the rocks (crocs or real water shoes or maybe flip flops). We chose to just walk in our tennis shoes and wash them later. The water is COOL and refreshing on hot summer days.

Robert Lake Park is a great time for all ages. Filled with beautiful streams and green at every place you look, this paradise could not be a better place to spend a Sunday afternoon. For the little kids, they can enjoy playing in the park and dipping into the stream. For older kids, they can walk around the beautiful Lake Susan or checking out the Huckleberry or The Montreat Store. For adults, you can sit back in rocking chair at left bank while watching how beautiful the whole area is.

This park is amazing and the ability to play in multiple creeks that flow and bisect the park makes for an afternoon of fun with the kids. The creeks are large enough to really be able to play in and the water is clean. There are multiple creeks with varying depths and speed so that kids of all ages can play. The banks are low to allow easy entry. There are nice playgrounds as well but our kids stick to the water. There are other facilities in and around the park as well. Definitely our kids favorite place to visit and plenty of shade for the parents to sit...

Best park in Western North Carolina! Worth the trip from Asheville. Kids can play in the creek or climb on tons of playground equipment from toddler to 10 (or older - I still like swings ;) ). Find shade or sun to sit and eat lunch. Open bathrooms in the building next to the tennis courts are clean and air conditioned. A little walk from the parking lot but not bad. You can also park near the tennis courts for shade for your car and easy access to the playground. You'll can spend quite a lot of time there and still have trouble pulling your kids away. ...
