Since 2012, we have been bringing our grandchildren to Montreat & specifically Robert Lake Park. While the park has a very nice variety of unique playground equipment the best excitement is wading in the Flat Creek. Every child we see in all ages is quickly walking in the shallow creek and balancing on rocks. Our grandkids have a special rock away from the main park (near the tennis courts), they call Lion King Rock. So each year we get their picture at LIon King Rock and other places as they walk the creek. We recommend bringing some type of water shoe for safety walking on the rocks (crocs or real water shoes or maybe flip flops). We chose to just walk in our tennis shoes and wash them later. Read moreThis park is amazing and the ability to play in multiple creeks that flow and bisect the park makes for an afternoon of fun with the kids. The creeks are large enough to really be able to play in and the water is clean. There are multiple creeks with varying depths and speed so that kids of all ages can play. The banks are low to allow easy entry. There are nice playgrounds as well but our kids stick to the water. There are other facilities in and around the park as well. Kids can play in the creek or climb on tons of playground equipment from toddler to 10 (or older - I still like swings ;) ). Find shade or sun to sit and eat lunch. Open bathrooms in the building next to the tennis courts are clean and air conditioned. A little walk from the parking lot but not bad. You can also park near the tennis courts for shade for your car and easy access to the playground. You'll can spend quite a lot of time there and still have trouble pulling your kids away. ...
