My family and I have been going to Palmetto County Park for a few years and we have never experienced what we did today. We took our 5 and 7 year olds to the playground section and there were two birthday parties underneath the pavilions. The people throwing the parties were African-American and had very loud explicit rap music playing at the party. When we heard this explicit music we walked over to the party and ask the people if they could turn it down or turn it off. They didn't say a word they just turned around and increased the volume of the music. We decided to go to the other side of the playground where the words couldn't be heard just the beat. Apparently someone else had complained already because the park ranger came over on his golf cart and told them to turn the music down. They did turn it down but as soon as he left they turned it back up. We were so disgusted we just left. I can't stand when disrespectful young thugs think that they have the right to do whatever they please and completely ruin a nice family park with their we don't care attitude! Before we left we picked up numerous empty water bottles among other pieces of trash just thrown on the ground from the party goes as well. Disgusting! We are done with Palmetto Park because they obviously don't care about the respectable people that pay for a yearly pass. In my opinion there should be no warning for playing explicit music at a playground. There should be immediate ejection from the park because if you don't have enough respect to not play that at a kids birthday party at a public playground then you shouldn't be allowed in the park period. I hope the park higher ups read this and make a change to their policy because if they don't they will soon have a run down trashed park on...
Read moreThis is a great park to hangout and spend time with the family! We went during June.
Key Notes: It does cost to get into the park, a few dollars per person Water park inside the park itself Walking trails, all but the trail that you take a wooden bridge to get to are good to take a stroller on. The one trail that you take the bridge has so many roots that it makes it an uncomfortable ride for the children. Bring sunscreen and bug spray during the warm months There are area's for kids to play, one particular one has a huge tree house that gives you a great view of the marsh when getting to the top. Most of the trials are covered with shade so you tend to be put of the sun.
Go and try this place out, it's a great...
Read moreAn absolutely beautiful park! There are tons of trails, both paved and unpaved, so you can choose your own adventure. While walking, we saw a space for pedal boat and bike rentals, a fenced dog park, a large playground, a water park, several fishing docks/canoe launches, a tower to climb and look out over the trees, and tons of picnic space! There were also a couple long wooden foot bridges out to islands that passed through a grassy, swampy area that were so fun! As expected, there is a lot of wildlife, from squirrels and small crabs, to large birds and alligators (though we couldn't manage to spot one), so keep track of your group, especially with children. Highly recommend! $2/person to enter, and treats for any...
