First I would like to thank Shane with the U.S. Forest Service for being helpful and very knowledgeable about Blanchard Springs.
We stayed at the campground which was very clean and not busy at all. This campground is perfect for tent camping and has a restroom and shower. The campsites are fitted with a picnic table, firepit, and grill. Make sure you collect some wood along the way as you won't find much wood to collect within the camping area which in my opinion is a great thing. Make sure you dispose of your trash before sundown as there are some masked bandits (Racoons) that enjoy looking for scraps but don't offer them any food as they will tell all there other furry friends to join them next time.
There is a small swimming area (North Sylamore Creek) within the campground. Once at the creek, pay attention to the rocks under your feet as you will likely find fossils, from the ordovician period, imbedded in the rocks. If you find some of these fossils make sure you leave them in the area you found them to help preserve this park.
While we were there the cavern was closed but that didn't keep us from exploring the rest of the park. You will find the spring absolutely amazing. There is a beautiful concrete trail to the spring and on this trail you will find some animal tracks which brings a nice touch education to the trail.
Theres plenty of other things to see while your here so create your own adventure and enjoy this beautiful Arkansas gem.
Oh, cell service is extinct at the campground if you have T-Mobile but there is free wifi down from the campground. I enjoyed not having cell service...
Read moreMy husband and I are on our yearly anniversary trip. We found this amazing gem. The rolling hills with beautiful Scenery to go along with it. It is truly hard to even find the words to describe God gifts like this. I truly loved the care taken to care for the cave and its habitat. The gift shop was pretty cool for not being giant I loved all the information on bats. Our main tour guid was amazing. She was very well spoken but also joked around and was great with the kiddos. The cost also didn't kill the pocket book. We did the 2:30 tour. Definitely be promptly on time. I could see how being late would set other people behindi dont want to give it all away so go explor for your self. The temperature was amazing down there. Was never hot or cold. The amazing views under ground are worth the walk and time spent. The ship formation was my favorite. It formed on it own over time and not on purpose. We even got to explore some of the sounding area. In the same park as the cave. We went down the the old mill. It had a spectacular water fall with green waters. There was a bord walk to guide you to a view from above. Also got to see mirror lake and a water fall here also. There is also another path to take you below. It is definitely worth the walk. We will definitely be making a stop back with our kiddos. Also if you close by take the time to enjoy and help support them so they can expand and make improvements so other generations has this wonderful...
Read moreThis campground is among the best in Arkansas, and a must-see stop for any camping vacationers visiting the Ozarks. The recreation area consists of the caverns visitor center and tours (presently closed), a creek-side pebble Beach day-use area with bathhouses, two group campsites, an ampitheater, the falls out of a cave mouth feeding a manmade dammed lake, and a general campground most suitable for tent camping accessed across two low-water crossings which sits alongside the north branch of Sylamore Creek upriver from the day-use area. The Sylamore Creek hiking trail extends down stream to the creek's terminus at the White River, and upstream to at least the Barkshed campground about 10 miles; I think there are more trails thereafter, but I haven't hiked them. Group sites must be reserved, individual campsites may be reserved or available first-come, depending on the season. For the best experience, visit when water in the creek is high, but not flood stage. Call ahead to confirm...
