The first time we tried to hike to Chapel Rock it was during an impromptu trip to Pictured Rock National Lakeshore. Needless to say we ran out of time and had to turn around before reaching the formation. This time however we did the entire loop and were blessed with pristine weather conditions and fall foliage during a late October visit. Read moreThis giant pine tree stands on a rock full of holes with it's roots tethered to the hillside to absorb nutrients. The view of Chapel Rock is best in the fall/winter with the leaves off the tree you get an idea just how fragile the Rock is. I imagine a storm or crazy tourist will spell an end to this natural wonder at some point. Best to see it...
