Not really a dog beach. If you have to keep your dog on lead how is it a dog beach? Lots of people who don’t like dogs, and should choose another part of the beach! I came from the west where there are real parks for the DOGS, and rarely a problem with people not “picking up” or with the dogs not getting along. I also Lived near REAL dog beaches in Florida. But here in Michigan folks who throw their diapers and pizza boxes on the beach are tolerated, where in more conscious places there are FINES and ENFORCEMENT for littering. but god help ya if your well behaved dog is enjoying a little off leash time! This park offers beach access, a dune right at the beach, a spacious picnic area behind the dune, and best of all, a boardwalk and stair system with stunning views of the lake and beach.
Nearby P.J. Hoffmaster State Park offers plenty of beach, hiking trails, and a lovely visitor center. But there are no elevated views of the lake there to rival the one at Kruse park.
When we visited Kruse Park, the boardwalk to the beach was closed due to high water and erosion damage. But the picnic area was not affected, and the views from atop the dune boardwalk were not to be missed....
Read moreA great place to park (pay at the kiosk or get a ticket) and hit the beach if Pere Marquette is too busy. Take a walk up into the dunes via the boardwalk. The steps in the adjacent park full of covered pavilions perfect for bday parties and reunions are to the left of the kids playground. There are over 60 steps before there's a bench fair warning! The playground is pretty big and good for kids most ages. Restrooms are unlocked and clean during the beached open season. Be Mindful of leaving food out there are many critters running through these woods all too comfortable...
