This wasnโt what I expected. The trip to Burgess Falls I saw a lot of pics of paddling up to the waterfall on their website. I have wanted to go on this trip for a couple of years and finally booked it in first week of July (assuming we would have the epic experience of paddling to a waterfall). We have had more rain this season in TN than in the last 50 years. It never dawned on me I would be traveling to it in a low water time and not able to paddle up to the waterfall. Their advisory that it could be low water in late summer towards the bottom of their website isnโt enough. They need to show pictures of what it is like at that time and also warn travelers at the top of their website when they are booking at a lower water time, otherwise it seems false advertising. In addition the timing they give is rushed. Just to pause to take a couple of pictures I was constantly in a race to paddle as fast as I could to keep up with my group. It definitely could use more time. My advice, call them before you book so you can be sure what you are actually getting booked to be able to do. There are many waterfalls in TN to hike to. I would have waited and booked another time had I known and not driven the almost 2 hours each way for us to be able to experience kayaking up to...
ย ย ย Read moreWhat a great way to experience Nashville from the river while giving back to environmental and social causes (4 great organizations)! I am always amazed at how that turn toward downtown never ceases to wow. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable (shout out to Jordan and Julian especially!) and they made sure it was a safe trip - they talked about sanitizing gear and they instructed from a distance. It's a great paddle - I told my sister who was a little afraid of getting in the river to stick near the shore and then watched her intentionally surf a few waves from the passing General Jackson Showboat (a fun sight in itself!) She clearly felt comfortable after just a few minutes on the water. I am an experienced paddler and found it a great float - with occasional sightings of great blue herons and other wildlife along the way. (One lucky trip I saw a beaver near the take out. Who knew there were beavers a stones throw from Broadway!) If you are visiting, this is a must experience. If you are local, check out how different the city feels from its lifeblood, the Cumberland River. It has given me a whole new viewpoint and appreciation for its importance. And did I mention it is fun?! Cumberland Kayak, thanks for getting me out...
ย ย ย Read more5 stars are not enough for the quality of the experince. I did the Burgess Falls trip with this company about 3 weeks ago and I was blown away. Today I did the Fancher Falls Kayak. They are unique in their own way, but both are beautiful, relaxing and refreshing. Don't think that the lower price on Fancher Falls means it is of lesser quality, not at all, I am sure a lot of people will prefer this one, as it has easier access to the falls and a more calm swimming area at the base, waterfall is not as huge as Burgess but still extremely impressive. If you have some challenges with your footing (older generation or kids) consider Fancher Falls, as Burgess Falls can be a bit tricky with rocks under the waterfall. Guides and crews are the most friendly people you will ever meet. They will help you throughout the trip and take as many pictures as you please. They will not ask for tips. Please bring some cash and tip them, they do a phenomenal job. In my experience any of these two choices (Burgess Falls, Fancher Falls) are amazing, you will not go wrong...
