Shelby Bottoms Nature Center Park is an absolute gem in Nashville! My wife, our daughter, and I recently had the most delightful experience there. The park is a haven for nature enthusiasts, and it offers something for everyone.
The natural beauty of this place is simply stunning. As we strolled along the trail, we were captivated by the picturesque scenes that surrounded us. The park’s lush greenery, serene river, and diverse wildlife make it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. I couldn’t help but capture a picture of my family enjoying the scenery, and it was like a postcard come to life.
What makes this park truly exceptional is the adaptability of the walk. Whether you’re looking for a short, leisurely stroll or a longer, more challenging hike, Shelby Bottoms has you covered. The well-maintained trails are accessible to strollers, making it family-friendly, just like my experience with my daughter in tow. If you’re a seasoned hiker, there are multiple splits and paths to explore, ensuring you’ll never run out of new routes to conquer.
This park is more than just a place to walk; it’s a gateway to tranquility and exploration. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a family with young children, or a seasoned hiker, Shelby Bottoms Nature Center Park has something to offer you. I highly recommend a visit to experience its beauty and...
Read moreThis nature center was a pleasure to visit. The building is down at the end of a walkway off the main road, just past the train tracks overhead. An impressive building with a great view from the deck, it also sports a functioning green roof. The staff were friendly and engaging, and knowledgeable about Tennessee wildlife. There are activities for both younger and older kids (my 6 and 8 year olds enjoyed the animal tracks sandbox) and lots for adult nature enthusiasts to see as well. There are restrooms and a drinking fountain.
Tips for a successful visit with children: Bring a lunch and/or lots of snacks. There is nowhere nearby to buy food. Wear sunscreen and hats, closed toe shoes and socks. The center has an ongoing calendar of events, so see if there is anything special happening before you go. Check the weather report so you don’t get caught in the rain!
We ended up going on a rainy day that wasn’t great for using the trails; however, I’m looking forward to trying the Riverwalk Trail the...
Read moreI had a bizarre experience here. I looked up fun things to do in East Nashville and first on several lists was Shelby Bottoms Nature Center. I went into the visitor’s center and the first thing the young woman at the desk asked me was if I had any valuables in my car. I said I didn’t think so and she then explained that vehicle break-ins had been a recent problem. I asked how often had this been happening to necessitate this warning and she said they had been averaging 4 break-ins a week. Not exactly a welcoming greeting. I left after this conversation.
To the management of the preserve, if you read this review: if this level of crime is happening in your parking lot you have a responsibility to install surveillance and possibly a security guard to monitor your lot during business hours. I was looking forward to enjoying the nature preserve but if I am placing myself at risk attending your park, I cannot...
