All the ladies were superbly wonderful, LOVE their job and love sharing what they know. The younger gal, oh what a treasure!! The passion for what she's learned and what she lives day in and day, doing exactly, historically accurate, every step of the way. Then shares, shows, tells of the life when the Jones's lived here, absolutely the best I've experienced in all my years visiting historical sites (which covers 4 decades). From the clothes she wears, all hand made (minus the petticoat), including the boots/shoes, most by her, to the slaughtering of the turkeys, chickens, and didn't get to finding out about the hogs; picking, planting, pruning the gardens, vegetation, everyone here does the work, walks the walk, cooks from the kitchen, eats what's grown, exciting tale of cornbread, but this gal, man, incredible!! A definite must visit and listen, learn, ask, they all have so much to share beyond what you'd...
Read moreVisited Washington-on-Brazos (Temp. closed to renovation) and Barrington Farm. The Barrington Farm was a great historical walk-thru (visually-lacking informationaly). Live animals, real crops, staff members in period era attire. Was a bit different, no plaques, no informational history anywhere detailing anything. If you wanna know about something or have questions you have to go find a staff member. Other than that it is like you have free reign to just stroll through someone's farm. Id say the whole experience will probably take you about 45 minutes to an hour apx.
I would stop by if you're in the area and wanna get out for awhile and see something different, otherwise I'd recommend waiting until Washington-on-the-Brazos reopens so there is more on site to see and do; as to when that is officially check their website...
Read moreWhat an amazing place! The staff is INCREDIBLE! They answered all my kids' questions, provided extra information and were patient and excellent at explaining concepts to children. The farm is so neat and we learned all sorts of things about early Texas, farm life, farm animals, gardening, cooking....we have been here several times and it appeals to people of all ages! Highly recommend for a fun, educational tour. I'd recommend doing the tour at Independence Hall first, as the two experiences fit nicely together! There isn't a lot of shade, so dress lightly, wear a hat and be ready to ask questions!! My kids were 12/9 for this visit, but they also loved the farm in younger years. We have been reading the Farmer Boy book and studying a farming block, so this was a great...
