Today there are several contemporary artists using their artistic talents to help bring attention to the immigration debate. The independent school that I teach at decided to address these issues by inviting one such artist, award-winning artist and architect, Mohamad Hafez, a native-born Syrian, raised in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to oversee a term-long found object sculpture project with my art students. Drawing from his own life experiences, Hafez has become a leading voice for refugees from around the globe. His message is crucial for our current times since he helps us to celebrate our differences, and find our shared commonality. His miniature buildings are so meticulously done and the effect is quite profound.
