Mohegan Bluffs is conveniently located a 7-minute drive from the ferry ports. Alternatively, a bicycle ride would take approximately 15 to 20 minutes, traversing several moderate hills. This destination is highly regarded and should be considered a priority on your itinerary.
The site features a staircase leading down to the beach. Individuals with limited physical fitness should exercise caution, as the ascent back up can be strenuous. While the descent and ascent of the stairs may be manageable for some, it could present a challenge for elderly visitors.
Please be advised that one or two steps on the staircase may be loose; therefore, it is advisable to use the handrail for support.
A further consideration: upon reaching the base of the staircase, you will need to navigate over some rocks, which may present difficulties for certain individuals.
While the beach is visually appealing, swimming is not recommended due to strong currents.
Upon reaching the base of the staircase and traversing the rocks, proceed to the right. Read moreBeautiful boardwalk to hike up and down. When we arrived it was extremely busy at the top and on the bottom. There's a lot of steps, so as the signs warn, if you're unsure of your ability, it may be best to not go down. At the bottom there were large amounts of beach goers hanging out along the shore and in the water. The waves here were pretty gnarly, so I would caution against going too deep when swimming.
I would definitely come here again just to go up and down the boardwalk again. It's a great way to see the bluffs.
Lastly: parking is tight. Doesn't matter which mode of transportation you use. Bikes would probably be easiest but those racks were very full as well. Get here early if you'd like to spend most of your day...
Read moreWhat an absolute stunner!!! As soon as we walked those first steps down, I was in awe. The view of the crystal-clear water was just beautiful! Yes, it’s a bit of a hike with 6–8 flights of stairs and then some rocks to climb over at the bottom, but it is sooo worth it.
We took our kids with us and they thought it was such an adventure—they were so excited the whole way down. When we finally made it to the beach, it honestly felt like being in the Caribbean. No seaweed, just gorgeous blue water. We even spotted a baby seal and had the clearest view of the wind turbines out at sea.
We’ve been to Block Island at least six times and never found this spot before… and now I don’t think we’ll ever...
