This is a beautiful lighthouse in gorgeous setting with a ton of history!! We visited the South East Lighthouse yesterday and had a blast.. The architecture and setting were more than enough to keep the kids entertained for the entire hour we were there.. The woman running the shop was very sweet and full of information.. We bypassed the gift shop and didn’t bother paying the $10 admission to walk up into the tower.. Our only complaint is that you have to pay to walk up and enjoy the view, but I guess it helps them maintain the structure.. We chose to just leave a small donation.. If you take the time to do some research or just read the signs around the property, you’ll find lots of cool history related to Block Island and it’s lighthouse.. After checking out the lighthouse we had a quick picnic on the lawn before heading back to town.. The parking area and trails were mostly clean and the property itself is well...

Awesome lighthouse that we had the pleasure to tour today. There are two tour options: one where you go up into the tour ($15) and another where you stay in the main building and get to see historical artifacts and history of the building ($10).

We did the tower tour and it was enjoyable. We learned that the lighthouse was originally powered with pig oil to keep the light burning and they had to shade the light during the day to prevent it from burning out. It would take about three gallons of oil to keep it burning all night. There were several 100 gallon barrels that were kept downstairs for this purpose.

This lighthouse is still operational and has a lot of history attached to it. If you're the type who likes history (or even just lighthouses) these tours are absolutely worth a visit. Beautiful lighthouse, knowledgeable tour guides, and lots of...

My in-laws lived here for a few years back in the 80s on assignment from the Coast Guard. It’s a beautiful lighthouse but I find it funny that no one talks about its paranormal history…it’s indeed very haunted.

Look up the history of the lighthouse where a previous keeper pushed his wife down the stairs to her death and you’ll find all sorts of stories of that same wife haunting its future tenants! My in-laws have some crazy stories to tell, and there’s no denying the lighthouse is a fascinating, beautiful place!

We visited in 2016 and although the lighthouse had been moved back from its original location, we were able to get a real tour from my in-laws, showing us where exactly everything happened from their stories....
