I booked at HoJo's because I was able to get a rate under 80$ per night for a 5 night stay through Agoda. That is only slightly higher than the semi-nasty 1 and 2 star hotels (some I have reviewed here on Google) I have been forced to book for my work trips. HoJos is leaps and bounds better than those other hotels that are only slightly cheaper. Howard Johnson by Wyndam is located a stones throw away from Newark Airport. Planes constantly pass low over the hotel to land. I'd say every 2 minutes. I never made it from my car to the front entrance without seeing one go over. Once inside, I was suprised how little I heard them considering how close they are. The Crown Inn motel as a comparison is much much louder than this hotel. Check out my review. The hotel is clean, quiet and kid friendly. There is a convenience store downstairs. The week I stayed his hours were listed as 9-4 but I saw him there after 5 some nights. He has all the essentials. Candy, tv dinners, frozen treats, toiletries, hygiene products. I was particularly impressed that he only stocks the store with frozen products that fit in the small, room sized microwaves. Likewise all the frozen goods fit in the small freezer section in your room fridge. I know this may seem minor but nothing is more frusterating than buying popcorn to pop and the microwave is too small for it to spin. If you lose your bag at the airport he has enough to get you by down to underwear and socks. The restaurant and gym were both closed the week I stayed. Private, secure, level free parking was available. Be sure to turn your radio down and really listening to the GPS when you are getting close to the hotel. It is easy to miss a turn and if you do your GPS will go from 1 min to 16 minutes. Once you know how to get in and out it is actually pretty smooth.

The hotel is situated very close to the Newark Airport, NJ. However considering the amenities available I rate the hotel 3 star. Rooms and services were okay and very noisy at night. They don't offer breakfast 😒 as part of the package and a small restaurant is there at the hotel with limited menu options. However the food they make is pretty good and fresh. I stayed in the hotel for 3 days, and had my breakfast and dinner from the restaurant. Please note that the hotel has smoke restrictions and there is a designated area outside the hotel for those who would like to have one. If you caught smoking inside your room or hotel you will be charge for $250 and so on. A small shop run by a lady is inside the hotel that sells necessary commodities and souvenirs. Also a vending machine is available in the lobby for non-alcoholic beverages. You will not get any alcohol in the hotel or nearby area, so make sure you get it from outside before you check in. Airport shuttle is free from the hotel, however to reach Penn station Newark, you either get an Uber or Lyft, that cost you $9-15 depending on the time.

Rarely do I leave negative reviews but this place was so horrendous that I must warn others of this horrible place. My flight was canceled and I had to find a hotel at 10 o’clock at night and most everything else was booked so I’ve found this. When Uber dropped me at the front, I see several sketchy people loitering out front and smoking. One of them proceeded to bang a shoe at the glass at me when I was inside at the desk. The room itself was the most disgusting hotel room I have ever been in. Entire place smelled like cigarette smoke. The room was moldy, windows were filmy and dirty. It wasn’t until the morning that I realized the window wouldn’t even close all the way, which was why it was so loud. I honestly did not feel safe here as a woman traveling alone. I think the hotel is used a some sort of low income housing. Seemed like these guests lived here. Not at all what was presented on the website. Oh yeah, they bill themselves an airport hotel, but they don’t even have a shuttle to the airport. Avoid this place all costs.

Awful. This place is such a ripoff! Avoid staying here if possible. Our flight was cancelled, so we booked this hotel for one night’s stay. We paid $149 which came to $170 with tax. We have now learned that it is possible to get a $50 motel experience for what is supposed to be a $150 hotel. The entire hotel reeks of cigarette smoke, the carpets in the hallway are the filthiest I’ve seen, bed is uncomfortably firm, mold on the bathroom ceiling as there is no bathroom fan. The window curtains were torn in half. Please see pictures. Minimal isolation material made it so we heard every airplane landing and taking off from Newark Airport making it impossible to sleep. We tried to walk to the airport (Google says it’s a 5 minute walk), but it was showing us the flight path going over multiple lanes of highway and jumping over 5 feet medians, and 9 feet tall chain link fences. We ended up taking an Uber because the hotel has no airport shuttle. Please choose a different hotel!

This place is the worst place I’ve stayed in. So many things wrong with it. First of, the area it’s in just seem a bit sketchy to me. from the entrance and the inside. Once the door to the hotel/motel opened, I got hit by this strong scent...smelled like an excessive use of chemical, trying to get rid of bad odor, same scent in the elevator as well. Once we got to our room, it wasn’t any better. Peel off paint on the bathroom and the tub. After just a few seconds of running the water in the shower, damn tub is filled up with water. Some nasty looking stains on the curtains and stain on the sheets. Holes all over the walls. Oh and let’s not forget the couple next door arguing so freaking early in the morning....like a serious argument... I even heard the guy called her a crack head, talking about her and her family are crack head. Like what the hell? I’ve stayed in motels with more class than this so call hotel. Never again. Do NOT stay here. You’ll regret it.

First I staid because it was an emergency and nothing else was available for under 500 a night and it's just 1 night. First it was a pain in the butt to find it's hidden and hard to find. The parking lot seems to be full of homeless people who are somewhat rowdy. There are also abandoned cars in the lot. The front desk has bulletproof glass. The first room I got had a syringe in the fridge. I was going to leave and pay for the Hilton at 420 the night but my mom talked me out of it she said it's just a few hours. They quickly changed the room and the second room seemed cleaner. But the people hanging out in the parking lot makes it super uncomfortable.
