My friend recommended that we taste at Archery Summit. We had reservations for four at 2:30. We arrived early and were seated at around 2:25 in the member’s lounge. We got water and visited. At 2:45, we not only still hadn’t received our first pour, but nobody even came to our table during that time. We stood up and walked out.
On our way out, two employees said to have a great day (one in the member’s lounge, one in the hallway toward the entrance). When we got back to the entrance to leave, the host said to have a great day, even though she had just taken us back to the member’s lounge 25 minutes prior. I notified the host about what happened. She didn’t say much, and then a gentleman who was standing at the door addressed me (perhaps a manager of some sort).
I told him what happened. His response was curious to say the least. He said, “I wondered if that was the case (in response to me telling him we weren’t ever served). That is our fault for poor scheduling, there were several groups who all came in together.”
When we were in the member’s lounge, there was one group of 12 or so, and then maybe two other tables of two. That’s it. The gentleman never said, “Can I make this up to you?” “Here’s a free bottle of wine.” “Here’s a coupon for free tastings.” “We’d like you to come back.” Nothing. Just “Sorry, this was our fault.” Duh of course it was! We had made reservations many days earlier.
We ended up driving down the road to De Ponte Cellars (one of our favorite wineries) where we got excellent service and where I purchased a lot of wine. The bottom line is Archery Summit not only missed out on my business, but I will unfortunately be recommending to my friends not to...
Read moreWe drove all the way from Tacoma in one day to do this tasting. We stopped to meet up with family in Vancouver so the 4 of us hit the road when GPS told us too. It was a Friday afternoon and due to accidents the time kept adding on to our trip there. We called and asked if it was still going to be OK if we came at a later time which we were told over the phone would not be a problem at all, However, have they told us that we were going to be rushed we would’ve rescheduled for the next day.
This was a special birthday celebration and we wanted to try to replicate one of our favorite wine tasting that we had been to in Sonoma Valley Bella winery that is also A winery in a cave, Without actually driving to Sonoma Valley.
We had ordered a cheese platter with our tasting that we had to remind them that we had ordered and our server for the night just dropped it off and didn’t explain which cheeses were which and by the end the last few tastings were delivered at the same time, which ended up causing confusion on what was what. He was still friendly but very much wanted us to leave and after driving for a whole entire day just to go here was fairly disheartening.
The wines were very clean and crisp I’ll give them that, but nothing was extraordinary that I couldn’t live without, if the prices were a little bit better we would have probably each gone home with a bottle of wine, But no one is going to pay $130 for a bottle of wine that they only...
Read moreArchery Summit Wine is fantastic. All you need to do is look it up in Wine Spectator or Wine Enthusiast to see that no other winery in Oregon scores so high consistently with their wines. 90, 91, 93, 94, 95, 92, 91, etc. year after year. In this climate, that is not easy to do.
I fell in love with the place on our first visit, during Memorial Day when the Willamette Valley wineries have an open house. We return again and again.
I noticed many people complained about the price and the quality. It is expensive, but not when you compare to vineyards like Opus One, Joseph Phelps, etc. in Napa Valley. And yes, Archery Summit is at that same level.
As for quality, Pinot Noir is a funny wine. There are few red wines that elicit such extreme opinions. Many people tend to like Cabernet Sauvignon, syrah and Merlot, but Pinot is often seen as too light and too fruity. I love Pinot Noir and am a fanatic for it.
If you really want to get a sense of Archery Summit, compare it against Premiere Cru French Burgundy wine like Nuits-Saint-Georges or Grand Cru like Chambertin. You will find it holds up well in both quality and price. But unlike most French Burgundy wines, it is drinkable on release and it is dependably excellent year after year. You don't really have to worry about which vintage it is, because they are...
