Attending the Newport Kite Festival at Brenton Point State Park in July 2024 was a delightful experience. This annual event, held over a weekend, is a must-visit for both kite enthusiasts and casual observers. The festival’s charm lies in its simplicity—bring a kite, some string, a chair, and be prepared for the elements. Most importantly, don’t forget your camera to capture the vibrant spectacle.
The atmosphere was filled with joy and excitement as kites of all shapes and sizes danced in the sky. From graceful stunt kites performing intricate maneuvers to colorful and whimsical designs, the visual display was captivating. Expert kite flyers were on hand to share tips, making it an educational experience as well.
However, be aware that parking can be a challenge, particularly for those with disabilities. When my wife and I arrived, we observed that the police were using the handicap spaces. They had closed off an entire lane of traffic which could have been utilized for their vehicles instead. For those needing accessible parking, there are two handicap spaces next to the public restrooms, up the hill. You’ll need to drive up the drive marked “authorized vehicles only” to reach them.
Despite the parking issues, whether you are an avid kite flyer or a first-timer, this festival offers something for everyone. It’s an excellent hobby to pick up at any age, and the sense of community among participants was heartwarming. I highly recommend the Newport Kite Festival to anyone looking for a fun and inspiring way to...

We also noticed non parking staff were holding spots for their friends, and people were using tents to block additional parking spots. Hopefully next year we will be...
