Me and a friend took the Snow Lake hike today (Sunday July 18th 2021) and he used the Alltrails Pro app to measure our distance as a round trip. It came out to almost exactly 8 miles total. The ski area Alpenta parking lot access to the trailhead was super full and the trailhead was crazy busy with hikers from 1-6pm. This trail is listed as moderate but I feel like many parts especially the boulder fields that you have to negotiate are more on the moderate-hard side. That being said be careful not to slip and hurt yourself on all those crazy rocks on a good portion of the trail. The lake is 100% gorgeous. We even saw a swimmer almost in the middle of the lake and later when headed back on the upper portion of the ridge when you can see almost the full lake we saw 2 people canooing in the middle portion. The water was cold but bearable. There were also snow drifts in many places that were easily 2-4 feet deep still on July 18th. We had to Snorkie dogs that went with us that my friend owns and they were utterly worn out when we finished the hike and got back to the car a little after 7pm. We got tons of beautiful pics and I will post the ones that were best here. I'm pretty worn out myself from the hike but would definitely recommend this destination to anyone able to get up there.. we also noted that the high point you hike to is 4400 feet then go down to about 4020 feet at the...
Read moreI hiked this trail a couple of times, and really enjoyed it. It was around 7 miles round trip if I remember correctly. I'd say the trail is easy with the exception of distance. There is a nature toilet about a mile from the end of the trail. When I went there was a sign that said restroom. I walked down the trail and there was a wooden seat sitting out in the open - like an outhouse, without the house. I had to use it, so I had my friend guard the entrance to the trail, lol. The lake was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. There are rock fields along the hike. We went in the winter so we saw icicles. At the lake there are small waterfalls. We went early in the morning to avoid all of the trail foot traffic. We started the hike at around 7am, and didn't pass a single person on the way out. We encountered one group of 3 people when we arrived at the lake, and when they saw us they went to anther section so my buddy and I were basically alone at this majestic lake. On the way back to the trail head we probably passed 100 people that...
Read moreThe most scenic 7-mile hike with a breath-taking alpine lake and a mountain backdrop at the top. Snow Lake is worth the 4,4400 ft elevation trail hike.
We packed some backpacks with water, snacks, gummies, and sunscreen. We hardly saw anyone else. It must have been an off day - it was August, around 4 PM.
There were some narrow, steep, rocky areas, so wear some shoes with grip and padding.
We didn't encounter any wildlife. The trees are enormous and cover a ton of the mountain in green. Once at the top, the fog over Snow Lake was incredible. It rolled in and was in continuous motion. It got a bit chilly, so bring a jacket you can pack or tie around your waist.
Our group kept a steady pace and enjoyed the 5-ish hour round trip. This hike is a must-do...
