Tuesday Nov. 14, 2023 7am. We overheard a wise guy - smart mouth working at this center this morning. We had parked overnight - (as many people do). Last night there were nine cars & two RVs in the lot. The night staff (a woman displaying questionable & inappropriate behavior) locked the bathrooms about 7 pm & she kept them all locked all night. At 7 pm she actually locked a woman in & never apologized when she had to let her out. We had parked RIGHT by the bathrooms so we had a front row view to see & hear the awful behavior of this location's staff. 7am - The fellow with the rude mouth was standing next to a female worker who a pleasant looking, traveling woman was speaking to. He decided to loudly mouth off that it's 2 hour parking & when she said she hopes he never needs more than 2 hour parking - he nastily replied - "NOT ME ! I GOT MY OWN HOME!" His inexcusable disrespect to humiliate & embarrass her was obvious & despicable. The traveler chuckled lightly & left.

SC has always been known as the least hospitable of the southern states. Considering their very high rate of poorly educated residents this behavior was no surprise to us. But, the fact that this is a government property & a welcome center - you would think the staff could at least be sober & have even the most basic social skills & manners. We wish we could give zero stars.

FYI - We spoke with another person before we left - he said the outside staff speak & do as they please at this location because their supervisor is a horrible jerk. He apparently condones this behavior because he treats people, workers & guests, equally badly. WOW. He sounds like a real zero star guy.

IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS CENTER NEEDS NEW STAFF & SUPERVISOR - NOT THIS...

Honestly you'd think this place would be more welcoming since it is a government building AND a welcome center. The nicest one is the older lady that works part time at the welcome center.

We travel a lot between NC & SC for our rentals .... they have the SKETCHIEST nighttime employees. I watched one man hang out on the picnic table just to get up every so often to check the cigarette butt containers & get cigarettes out. A woman had the sketchiest car with a load of people pull up and hang out with her the whole time we were there.

They're getting pretty strict about "only 2 hours" but, it certainly shouldn't be because of the Travelers - it's their employees they should be looking at.

I did hear though that nothing gets done about the behavior here because the supervisor is such a jerk which I guess does make sense.

2 hours is NOT enough of time to rest so you can safely get back on the road.

However, don't worry.. if you drive an RV the timeline doesn't apply to you apparently. We came for about 15 mins the other day, left & continued our travels. When coming back through to South Carolina 10 hours later the same RV was still there.

Rest stops are very few when traveling I really do think they should allow at least 4 hours but hey, who am I? Certainly not SCDOT or the...

This place is pathetic. Like most state/ government backed facilities in this State. Is it really asking too much to leave the Wi-Fi on after 5:00. It’s really questionable if you truly have it at all. I travel through here often and have to stop because this state has very little rest areas otherwise but seriously, rest areas are supposed to be for travelers, so would it kill the state to have some Wi-Fi and maybe even and Electric For travelers to use. So sad. This county brings in a lot of money for the state, yet the government officials to give none of that money back to its residents or its visitors. Beautiful area. Too bad the states too greedy to provide anything free...

I got here late and was able to spend the night and leave in the morning without getting "the knock on the window." It's a nice rest stop with clean bathrooms, BUT it has 2 hour parking signs all over the parking lot. So if the state wants to be stingy and kick people out in the middle of the night, they already have the signs up.

Connie was the epitome of Southern hospitality as she shared the treasures of South Carolina with me. When she found we shared a craft, basket weaving, she shared some of her supplies with me! I promise to share my finished baskets with her via email!

I believe I met the nicest women working at any visitor center on the planet. Marsha was super helpful and just a friendly and wonderful person to speak with. Very knowledgeable about the area and just fun to talk to. Thank you!!
