Time to step away from the daily grind and simply take in all that nature can offer. And a no better place to relax and unwind is the Vereen Memorial Historical Gardens with its scenic marsh boardwalk and nature trails. Being pet friendly it was nice to have our black lab mix, Bentley, come along for the adventure and he was greatly rewarded with a dip in the water. In 1971 one hundred and fifteen acres was deeded to the Horry County Preservation Commission and in 1973 the Garden was opened to the public. In 2000 fifteen hundred square feet of marsh boardwalks were constructed and in 2008 the C.B. Berry Community Center was built at the entrance as an educational facility. Located in this beautiful park one can explore a number of hiking trails and boardwalk with fishing pier, enjoy park swings, picnic shelters, portable restrooms, old school swing set and dog watering station. Vast marshlands, the shores of the Intracoastal Waterway, Wishing Tree Island and a family cemetery are just a few things on your journey ahead. The sights and sounds are simply yours to enjoy and the best thing...

One of the highlights for us was the stunning water views. The gardens sit right alongside the Intracoastal Waterway, and the scenery is just breathtaking. We also enjoyed some shelling on the beach, which added a fun, beachy vibe to our visit.
We couldn’t leave without hanging a shell on the Wishing Tree - a unique and charming tradition that adds a bit of magic to the experience.
The wildlife here is abundant too! We spotted several birds, and the area has a peaceful, tranquil feel that made it easy to forget we were so close to the hustle and bustle of the coast. It's a fantastic spot for nature lovers, photographers, or anyone looking to unwind.

Read moreTook my dog to Vereeen Memorial Gardens today and we both enjoyed it. The walk is about 3 miles and takes about an hour. It is through the woods and is an easy dirt trail. We passed a few groups, but it was not overcrowded and the people were all nice. The main trails are clearly marked and all side trails lead back to one of the main trails. The boardwalk area by the waterway is beautiful even if it is a little more crowded. It is very quiet and peaceful. There are also swings to sit in and picnic tables. There are nature posts along the way telling you about the local wildlife. If you are a nature lover looking for an easy nature walk, I highly recommend giving...
