Really nice quiet place to camp for a night if traveling on I-80. It's on the north edge of North Platte, NE, on the edge of the North Platte River. From I-80 exit onto US-83 north, go through town, park is on the right (take the last entrance before the river for the campground). I was there by myself for one night, but it looks like a big park with some playground equipment as well. Certainly a decent walk through the park with lots of trees and shade. It's unusual for me to camp in a city, so it was a little strange, but it was actually very quiet for as close to US-83 as it was. The river is right there as well, blocked off from vehicles but people were parked in the campground and relaxing by the river. I normally stop in Ogallala on my way from Michigan to Colorado to camp. I chose this campground because the commercial campground I normally stopped at as gone crazy in pricing ($54/night!) so I thought I would try this instead. This campground is run by the city, at $15 a night I'll be stopping here again next time I come through.

We were in town for 2 nights and needed to take my daughter someplace to run around. I saw Cody Park on the map but had no idea what it included. We were shocked and highly impressed. First we saw a pool then rides and as we continued the loop an Elk swimming and deer! I didn't even know there were animals here. What a great surprise! We ended up spending 3 hours here. My daughter rode 4 rides for $2.00. We all had ice cream for $7. The playground in the back was amazing and we loved the trains! Pat the man that worked at the train museum was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We really enjoyed talking with him. Also the 2 young male attendants that ran the rides had the kids hysterical. They were joking with them and shooting the kids with water guns. They loved it. I highly recommend visiting this park. Especially the kids playground in the back.

The Big Boy and Southern Pacific trains are in excellent condition. If you like trains, especially steam engines, I recommend pinging this place on your map. Visitors can walk through the SP train that includes a mail car and caboose, both in excellent condition and replete with train paraphernalia. The depot is typical, but in good condition. I didn't spend much time in the tiny museum, but there were some pictures, train artifacts and information in the building. While in North Platt, I visited The Golden Spike (must visit if you like trains) and 20th Century Veterans Memorial (best vet memorial for town size I've come across).

Cody Park is a very well cared for city park that is a great place for family gatherings, exercise, and spending quality time with young children. There is no gate fee and the playground facilities are always clean and in excellent condition. Cody Park swimming pool is an Olympic sized pool , that includes diving boards and a good sized "baby pool". The pool house is staffed by attendants at all times and you have the option of keeping your belongings with you or storing them in baskets which are shelved behind counter at no cost to the patrons. The pool is in excellent condition, water always clean and clear, and the staff is well trained and certified in first aid and CPR. Cody Park Pool is definitely a great place to cool off and burn off extra energy! Cody Park also offers something for the little tykes at the Concession & Rides area featuring a beautiful and authentic Carousel, along with 4-5 other carnival type rides and tickets are super cheap also. There are slow pitch softball diamonds, horseshoe pits, nature trails and all kinds of animals that one can see close up such as llamas, buffalo, peacocks, ducks & geese. There is also an incredible Union Pacific Locomotive display that is really incredible. Cody Park is the home to most of the Railfest, offers many other seasonal treats also along with Arts in the Park!!! North Platte has one of the finest Park Departments around with people who know what they are doing running it! Lyle Minshull, Park dept director, is a super guy and has been doing an incredible job for many years...

Stumbled upon this city park it's real cute somewhat clean it has baseball fields it sits beside a river in North Platte and it has animals ducks deer Buffalo donkeys Etc that you can feed you can walk around the park you can picnic in the park and you can play in the park. The only things about the campground is the sites are not long enough for campers there was one pull through which we were able to get into with our 28 ft plus truck and there is a lot of vagrant homeless I guess you say people that stay there in their Vans and cars that don't pay we paid $15 a night they do have a dump station they do have water on site but not at any campsite there is no electricity. It is pretty loud cuz your next to an interstate but once Nightfall comes all that noise traffic ends. But while we were staying there there was this one girl in a white car and I know she's got to be a local it had previously rained before we got there and she drove around and hit the only mud puddle that was there which was real close to our campsite splattering our camper door on purpose. Okay let it go one time no big deal second time she comes around she does it again okay then the third time, so now we know she's doing it on purpose. She would stop and hang out with a bunch of young juvenile kids up by the restrooms smoking a dope riding around acting childish. You need to have some kind of security coming through there checking out the park frequently for these young hoodlums that speed through the park. There's lots of kids and people just speed through there...
