We had a family camp on Memorial Day weekend, and it was our first camp at Hauula Beach Park. There was some permanent homeless there, police had to be called by another camper because they were on their spot. Homeless people went running and left their belongings the whole weekend, i assume they had another spot close by?. But the homeless did not bother at all. Located right across the street from 7-11 and we got our street parking early right by our camp site #3. Restroom was a journey away, so I recommend you get a portable toilet if you plan to camp this far from the restroom, if you dont mind walking. The restrooms was clean and stayed clean all weekend, I was impressed. You got Tamura's Supermarket not far away, 5 min or less?. Beaches was rocky, but there is a nice area to swim with no rocks near the wall, and kids jump off at high tide. Big grass area to have games and fun. The one downside was there was water faucets but no running water? and one of the water faucet was broken. There was no trash bins close by anywhere, except near the bathroom camp sites, which was a big ??? Why are they charging for this camp site with no accessible running water and trash bins?. I brought my water hose and kids pool but couldn't utilize it with no running water, thank goodness I bought a portable sink:) But overall we had a blast, and...
Read moreCAUTION. We camped there for three nights. The first two nights were the weekends and there were large family groups camping even though there were some homeless people as well. On the third night it was basically just us and the homeless. I didn't feel very safe when one of them asked me in the restroom where I was from... but we stayed. At 2am we were woken up with several homeless guys surrounding our tent and one of them lifting our blinders and flashing a flashlight on us. We thought we were about to be robbed. I started talking to the guy with the flashlight to buy time for my friend to call 911. He was just rambling incoherently for a long time. We waited until the cops came and asked them to wait for us to bring our camp down and leave for a hotel. They didn't do anything about the people who were harassing us.
The camping site is pretty ordinary and the beach is not very pretty. The restroom stays dark at some points (in fact, was completely locked one of the nights) and there was a homeless guy basically living there. The only reason to stay here is because it's a bit easier to get permits but in my opinion just...
Read moreIt was a cool beach and had very cheap camping. Unfortunately the road is right next to the camping area. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, and mopeds were zooming by and revving their engines at all hours of the night. Aside from that the families visiting the park for the weekend were so friendly. One group has friends and family playing live music.
Then the families started leaving after the weekend. Homeless people that were sleeping in the bathroom stalls all weekend started roaming the grounds. They were going in my tent while I was driving and visiting places on the north shore. One of the homeless people told me he was telling other homeless people it wasn't their tent and to stay out. But they were in there anyways. The last morning I was sleeping and some homeless lady unzipped my tent and started going inside and woke me up and I heard a guy she was with yelling to her that "someone is in the tent, don't go in!...
