July 5th, 2023. We had a F'N BLAST. Free parking, free restrooms, free fresh water showers outside the restroom to take off the salt water. Bring your own snorkel gear or scuba. Water was a bit cold, but F it once the waves hit you at the shore you're all set. There is a current here and waves will come in and out. Experienced swimmers and/or experienced snorkeling is recommended. You can venture out as far as you'd like, but keep the current in mind. There were ZERO sharks around. There was plenty of tropical fish everywhere. Careful for the sea urchins on the rocks under water. I recommend wearing water shoes here to protect your toes and feet.Sea turtle came right up to us and wasn't afraid of human presence. Bring your own hydration and whatever food you'd like to eat. You can lay on the beach and catch some rays while your kids can play in the sand. Everyone at the beach was very friendly. Can't wait to do it all over again. Unless you're not experienced at snorkeling or swimming don't waste time and money on a snorkel excursion. The excursion takes you to the same spot just a little farther out not even half a mile. You can see the excursion guests and could literally swim up to them if you wanted to. If you get tired easily of swimming I recommend using a life vest or a floatation device of your choice. Be respectful of all marine life and you'll have a tremendous experience. Careful for the big rocks on the edge of the beach as they're razor sharp and the waves can push you against the rock wall. Other than that have a great time and let others on here k ow of...

It's the beach I go to the most, unfortunately people that like to spin up the beach have busted it up pretty good. The south side of the power plant has a pavilion, bathrooms, and a small little beach that a lot of scuba divers use. The north side of the plant has some picnic tables and fire pits. Last time I was out there only two of the pits were still standing. The south side hasn't changed much over the years and is in good shape. The north side is where all the truck people go to test out their vehicles. If you go during the week it's usually pretty quiet. The truck guys typically only show up on weekends and holidays and even then they usually wait until the evening to start spinning up the beach. The hot water pipe is the big attractions at that beach. There is a decent variety of sea life in the area. I've seen small reef sharks, octopus, turtles, several species of eel, and a large variety of fish. From the beach you can also see dolphins and whales from time to time breaching out in the deeper water. You can see them fine with your eyes but I prefer to bring a small set of binoculars along to get a better view. Hope this helps anyone...

Love & Hate it!

Great place for walk-in shore dives and snorkeling. Beautiful underwater life. I've dove and snorkeled here at least 50x and it keeps drawing me back.

Other than that, it's trashed. :( Yes, trash and debris everywhere.....and it's not from vacationers. It has become a piece of paradise that is embarrassing to bring guests to.

Yes, I've had my vehicle broken into and things stolen by homeless people.

Do NOT leave anything in your vehicle that you can't live without. Do not leave ypur keys in your towel to go swim. There are cooperatives that work together in crime. One person is a lookout, and one does the action. They look for targets of opportunity, and tourists make good targets.

That's why it's a love & hate hot spot. It's beautiful in and under the water. Everything draws me into another world. Yet verything on shore makes me never want to come back.

Excellent snorkel spot and great for amateur boogie boarders alike! The water here was SLIGHTLY warmer, nowhere near as much as I expected with what I was ready online. Three things to keep in mind: 1.) you’ll access the beach where the power plant is on your right side if you’re facing the ocean. There’s a parking lot, and I found parking to be plentiful on a July weekday in early afternoon. 2.) if you’re snorkeling, be prepared or willing to swim a good ways out. The tide has a been a little high lately, so perhaps it’s different normally, but you need to get at least 75 feet from the shore to make it really worthwhile. From there, I comfortably swam around to a lot of interesting reefs with lots of fish, including a couple species I hadn’t seen before anywhere else in my previous two trips to Maui/Oahu. This has to be a top 5 snorkel spot on this island! 3.) bring water shoes or put your snorkel fins on ASAP when heading out. The waves coming in can be fairly forceful, and just past the top of the shore, there are lots of rocks that could hurt or cut your precious feet quite readily!

This is one of my favorite snorkeling spots on Oahu, but only if you swim out to the pipes. After you park, look at the ocean until you see an area of water with lots of different currents (there will probably be other snorkelers there). This is where the pipes expel water. Then, go to the beach area next to the power plant fence. Swimming out past the initial surf can be tough, but it quickly gets easier. I recommend looking up a YouTube video because it will be much simpler to see what you are looking for rather than read it here. Once you get out there, I recommend swimming in front of the pipes for a fun little push. It is scary at first but it's very easy - go above either pipe, then swim down a few feet and the pressure will push you out about 20 yards and straight up. If you can hold your breath for 10-15 seconds, you will be fine and you can always swim up faster if you would like. It's not enough pressure to blow off your goggles but hold your strap just in case. Have fun! It’s amazing.

This is one if my favorite beaches in Oahu. Primarily because it's not very touristy and for the variety of activities you can do based on the tide. When waves are calm, this water is crystal clear and excellent for snorkeling. I've been fortunate enough to see sea turtles and Napoleon Eels in the few times I've snorkelers here. One day the waves were big so it became packed. Dozens and dozens of surfers came out to ride their wave. While I was disappointed that the water was too rough to swim and snorkel, it's still a great place to relax and watch the ocean. I bring my dog here to play and she loves this place. I mean, she loves everything, but that's besides the point. Parking can be challenging when the waves are big, but that's Hawaii for you. While showers are available, there are no bathrooms or places to eat nearby.
