Yosemite National Park (Part 1): Must-Visit Spots in the Wawona Area

The visitor center was not "open" for visitors yet as this is early May, prior to the labor Day opening. In the past they have short stage coach rides and cabins ranging from 1890 up, an actual Black Smith who does make thinggs to order and gate hooks and other iron implements. When we went to Yosemite reservations were need on weekends only. No entry requirements for the Wawona visitor center that I am aware of.

Small visitor center but cool free stage coach rides and Chinese laundry exhibit nearby. The stage coach driver has been doing it for 50 years! For me, the scenery south of the valley is forgettable. Glacier point road is closed so that may change my mind but the wawona area doesn’t have a ton to offer that sequoia/kings canyon doesn’t do better.

The Visitor Center next to Big Trees Lodge: The sign stated that it opened at 8:30am, we arrived at approximately 9:00. There were 2 staff there when we walked in, a man and a woman, who were so busy chatting with each other that they couldn't be bothered with acknowledging either me or my husband. Every time I looked in their direction they didn't seem to notice at all and simply kept chatting. We were there approximately 25 minutes, and not once did either one of them acknowledge either one of us at all. Not a look, glance, grin or word. They chatted with each other nearly the whole time we were there, then when a few others walked in, did welcome them, though not what I would call warmly. When we approached the desk to purchase a few items, the woman came over to ring them up, yet still was not warm or pleasant at all. My husband and I are very welcoming and easy to approach with ready smiles, so I know it was not a reflection on us. I have a photo of the 2 rude staff but have not found a way to attach it. Both were older/middle aged, medium height, had fair skin, gray/graying hair and wore glasses. They were both simply rude and do not reflect well on your fine establishment. It is a shame because the Visitor Center itself is nicely done, with many terrific exhibits and artwork and a wealth of history. Unfortunately, the rude staff ruined the experience for me. Now, instead of enjoying the memories of our time there, the most memorable thing is the rudeness of the staff, leaving a sick feeling...

The young lady who rang up my purchase was not only unfriendly, but downright rude, huffing and rolling her eyes as I counted out change for my purchase ( no one was behind me in line waiting) and then got angry when she dropped the chnage while putting it in the register. She didn't offer me my receipt, instead she slammed the drawer shut and walked away.

Signage is lacking on the building itself, so I struggled to find the visitor center at first. It's a teeny tiny visitor center, so it's...

What I expect from a visitor center is that if I go to a new (or even old) place and I have questions about planning my trip or stay, I expect to get some answers from the visitor center. I would also expect them to have up to date maps and information on how to get around. But this visitor center albeit having decent number of employees, isn't really doing anything except distributing maps and shuttle schedules (not to mention even those schedules are...
