I am falling in love with this park!!! There is a fee to get in, but the fee isn't wasted as you can tell the people who work here truely love this park and it shows! Lots of natural trails around the remains of a brick manufacturing company(where the name originates). Many trails to choose from novice meadows to more advanced hiking with a lot of elevation changes. Swimming and fishing, with a playground and picnic areas, and restrooms that are nice and easy to find included in this park as well. Highly recommend as there is so much to see that you would not think you are in Michigan anymore! I also recommend to bring a good pair of hiking shoes/boots as trails do get a bit advanced. It seems like every time you come around a corner or up/down a hill there is a reward of a nice lookout. Informative plaques are also throughout the park with ranges of info about the forest to the brick company. As you can see the Fall Season in the park is not to be...
Read moreGreat park with great trails.
-The Heron Hollow trail offers the best view of the beautiful green swimming pond and 300 million year old ledges. Great place for pictures. There are some steep hills though, so wear good shoes. The pond has a small beach area, but not much shoreline that is able to be utilized.
-The Beachnut Trail offers historical explanations of the place with a few remnants of what used to be. Has a pretty tall bridge with a high view of the woods around you.
-Deer Run trail is a favorite. Walking through the woods with the Grand River flowing right beside you. Great private place to take the dog for a dip.
-Prairie Loop is the most mellow of the trails being made up of grass.
-Tallman Trails seems to be the least traveled and is my favorite. Great views of the pond and Grand River. Plus a view of the dam. On this trial you can access trails not displayed on the map. If you dare to take them you’ll find some interesting rocks and a...
Read moreI'm giving this place three stars because I enjoy going there so much. I would give it 5, but due to the lack of follow-through with hours I can't justify it. I went there yesterday from Okemos at 7:30pm. It was perfectly light out. The park gate was closed, despite all the signs saying it's open until dusk. If I was a local, it might not be a big deal. But to say you're open until a certain time, and then you close almost two hours early, is a big inconvenience to park guests. Why isn't it posted on the signs that it's open until 6? Almost every time I've went, they've told me that they close the gates at 9:30pm, or 9, depending on the month and when it gets dark. I wasted a trip, gas and my time for no reason. I have yet to get a call back from the Eaton County park director regarding this matter. Make it open until dusk please, you'll help those of us that work until...
